Heart Pounding Sensation

Is it normal to feel your heart "pounding"?  Recently, I have felt this...it is continuous and is palpable through my chest and abdomen.  If I lean against a table, the table will "shake" at times.  Does this indicate a worsening of my heart failure?  I have had episodes of atrial flutter but the rates on this are at my pacemaker set rates (76) and regular.  My flutter is always well over a hundred but it also is regular. I have been hyperthyroid about 6 months ago but my last lab results (in Nov.) were normal.  Any ideas would be helpful as this can be quite annoying.

I have had a strong pounding heart just when i went up the stairs. It was strange because i am 18 and am fit. I just walked up the stairs and sat in my chair i noticed my heart beat was really pounding, i could hear it in my ears, I then felt my heart on my chest trying to calm down. I then noticed my heart would slow down rapidly like for example each dash is my heart beat "-" - - - - - - - -   -    -    -  -  - - - - that is what was happening. its scared me like my heart wasn't on pace, is this anything to worry about?

I have been trying to post a simular question myself. I also get the palps you are mentioning and also feel it in my upper back.I have had it for about 2 years now on and off. I havent seen any doctors about it yet because of my agoraphobia.

Dotty,

What you are refering to are palpitations.  Is it normal, no, is it commmon yes.  There are a variety of causes including the fibrillation and flutter you've had before.

An event monitor could show you exactly what rhythm you are having at the time of your palpitations.

good luck
