right blue thumb

Ever since about 16 years of age I can awake with tingling in my fingers and toes. The health care professionals explain it as poor circulation. This morning I awoke with a blue thumb and I have exercised all the blue out of it and now it is the right colour again. Do you have any tips as to how I could avoid this in future. This use to only occur when I was stressed and only ever awake with this problem for a few minutes however the tingling happens throughout the day now. I am 48 years old and in good health except for high blood pressure medication. I am physically fit. My Mom is 90 years old with HBP for 50 years. Thanks for this!

These symptoms could be poor circulation, however, it may be something rheumatologic (as achillea said, Raynaud's phenomenon). Thoracic outlet syndrome could cause issues with the hands, but would not cause issues with the toes as well.

Raynaud's phenomenon is a rheumatologic issue, and results from spasm of the very small arteries in the fingers and toes, and can be caused by things like cold, smoking, or other systemic issues.

You should consult with your physician, and consider a referral to a rheumatologist. If that work up is unrevealing, then a Vascular Medicine specialist (who specifically deals with circulation in the peripheral vessels, i.e. arms, legs, outside the heart).

I am not a doctor but thought you might like an idea or two to consider until the doctor here has time to respond to your questions.
