Hi. I developed AF after my mitral valve surgery and heart dysfunctional. I am on Digxin,Metoprolol, warfarin, and rampril. I do not have any chest pain or shotage of breathing or any sign. I was told that I have to take these medications for rest of my life. I do not like the side effect of the medications. Could the doctor please tell me what I can do?

Do you recomond any other alternative like electro version? or....

thanks

I am not a doctor, but have many family members and friends with heart disease.  Are you feeling tired and weak?  The warfarin can sometimes make people feel weak and not able to do what they would like to do.  The Metoprolol can make people feel tired.  The Metroprolol is a beta blocker, Rampril is the ace inhibitor, Warfarin is the blood thinner and Digoxin is for a better fill and stronger heartbeat.  You can ask your doctor about the Metroprolol to see if he could prescribed a different beta blocker that would not make you feel so tired (if that is your symptom).  Some people take Plavix instead of the Coumadin (warfarin) so you can ask your doctor about that if you have not already tried it.  Plavix works more like aspirin.  Warfarin is for more deeper artery blood clots.  Make sure that you are being monitored closely by your doctor regarding the warfarin.  My father has blood draws every 3 months and he is on warfarin and digoxin. It is important to stay on your medications.  Taking your medication as prescribed by your doctor will help to keep you out of the hospital.  Consult your doctor regarding your medication questions. Do not change any medications dosages without your doctors approval.
