should I be concerned?

I am a 28 year old female in good shape. I run about 12 miles per week.  Recently as part of a pre-employment physical my EKG was abnormal.  The Dr. questioned whether or not I had a previous MI and mentioned the term cardiomyopathy.  He also scheduled me for further testing (a cardiolite and an echo). Probably because of the medical questions I am no longer being considered for that job and my appointments have been cancelled. My dilemma is that the job that I did get did not find anything wrong with my EKG or are not concerned with it. I'm afraid that if I do see my own Dr. that I will disqualify myself from this job. I do exercise often without any chest pain or shortness of breath.  I do occasionally experience some dizziness and some shoulder pain. Not with exercise though. My plan is to see a Doctor after being at this job for at least 6 months or do you think I need to see someone immediately?

Dear elou,
Given you age, gender and fitness level it would be unlikely that you have a heart condition.  I would have to see the ECGs to make any kind of determination if they were normal or not.  Even if there was an abnormality I don't think an employer can disqualify you for a job based on this.  Minor changes on ECGs can be due to many things including normal variation.   Unless you are having symptoms I would just mention it to your doctor at your next routine check-up and have him check another ECG then.

Unless the job you are trying to get is one in which there should not be any questionable heart condition ,i.e. an airline pilot , police officer etc.,I don`t think they can legally disqualify you for the job due to the possibility of your having a minor heart ailment.

Seems to me that I have read that many runners are found to have "abnormal" ecgs when in fact their hearts are structurally sound.  I think the employer needs to get his facts straight.

Dear Sir/Madam

I wanted to know about the mild pain in my left chest. I am 31 years, married man and involved in office work. I do not smoke, drink (do not have any bad habit). But, I do not exercise sufficiently. Could you please suggest me what is the cause of the pain and what I have to do to get rid of it?

Please help me!

Sincerely

hiss
