too young for chest pain or heart problems

i am a 23 yr. old male, and the past two days out of no where i have a quick couple sharp pains shoot down the left side of my chest. if someone could tell me anything about why or what i should get checked or if i should please fill me in. am i thinking into it too much or should i really see a doctor?

First, please don't panic or worry.  Just about everyone has little quick shooting pains from time to time and they are nothing to worry about.  

Unless you have a really bad family history of extremely early heart disease, you are probably way too young for anything major heart-wise.  From what I have read and experienced myself over time, these quick sharp pains come and go and yes, often they will be in the chest.  My own cardiologist says there is more cause for concern when pain is not so sharp, and it feels more like lots of pressure or squeezing, and when it is in the center of the chest, not on the left side.   There would usually be other feelings of being unwell also, with left arm pain/discomfort, nausea, sweating, shortness of breath being some other symptoms in men.  

Women can have different symptoms so it's harder to determine what's going on with us, but you state you are male and 23 so I think you are fine.  I'm no medical expert of course, just a 58 year old with many years' worth of anxiety and weird symptoms that thus far have resulted in nothing, really, except some expensive doctor bills  :)
