ventricular bigeminy

Hi,

My name is Tabatha, I turn 40 in a few months and all of a sudden out of nowhere I was admitted in the hospital with my chest fluttering, PVC's I'm told, then the stress test indicated ventricular bigeminy,  I am scared to death this is going to kill me.  The doctor in the hospital never came to speak with me after all the tests it was the tech that told me what was wrong.  Does anyone know the survival rate of people with this condition?

This discussion is related to PVC's and/or VENTRICULAR BIGEMINY.

The survival rate of people dealing with bigeminy/PVC's who have structurally normal hearts is nearly 100%!!!  I can't guaruntee that, but basically, if you've been checked out and your heart is structurally normal, then PVC's and bigeminy are NOT DANGEROUS (though they are totally scary--especially at first).  Please come join us in the Heart Rhythm forum.  There are hundreds of posts describing PVC's/bigeminy and the treatments, lifestyles, and thoughts of those of us who suffer from them.

I have had PVC's regularly since after my first child was born.  He is now 71/2 years old!!!  There were periods of time when I thought I was going to die and leave my baby alone to grow up without a mommy.  But I'm still here.  There are many on the heart rhythm forum who've had them for DECADES and are completely healthy still.

I know you are frightened, and I know you are looking for answers.  You've come to the right place.  Please hop over to the other forum and read the "Hello" Post at the top of the page first.  I think you will find it comforting.  http://www.medhelp.org/forums/show/92

Take care

Hi Tabatha,

Welcome to the community!  We're glad you stopped by and hope we can help : )

PVCs in the setting of a structurally normal heart are benign.  They can be annoying, frustrating, bothersome and scary, but if you have had a good cardiac workup (EKG, echo, sometimes a stress test or stress-echo) and your doctor is not concerned it becomes a matter of accepting them....That can be the hard part for some people.

Have you had an echocardiogram?  Check with the hospital on how to obtain copies of your test results.  You may want to take them with you to see your own physician for his/her opinion.  The reports are nice to have in case you ever need/want a follow up.

Try not to worry.....I've had PVCs for at least 30 years and I'm 50 now : )

Hang in there!
