The left main stem comes from the Aorta and splits into two vessels, the left anterior descending and the left circumflex. The left anterior descending runs down the left/front side of the heart, the circumflex runs down the left/side/rear of the heart. If you follow the left circumflex down to about half way, another vessel branches off, called the OM2, (obtuse marginal 2). Nearer the top of the circumflex is another branch called Obtuse Marginal 1.
Proximal is the first section of that vessel, they basically have three terms. Proximal, mid, distal. I've had three stents in the obtuse marginal vessels, and when blockages form I get pretty nasty symptoms, such as throat discomfort, jaw ache and chest pains.
Oh, and 80-90% refers to the extent the blockage is covering the opening in the artery where blood flow through, so you have 10-20% of normal blood flow squeezing through the blockage.
