Thank GOD!..........SO I started getting more involved in church and stuff like i was sometime ago....... All my palps are gone.....I think I felt one to five within the last 3 days!   YAHOOOOOO

even if you have MVP they probably won't worry about it or do anything until it's in the mid - severe category unless there's other things going on...I have a ton of stuff going on even very frequent PVC's; VT; (cardiomyopathy) deterioration of the function of the myocardium (heart muscle) along with mvp and tricuspid problems - my dr's told me they wouldn't do anything and it was nothing to worry about - mine was found on an Echo and confirmed by a cardiac cath and other testing

A holter monitor does not detect MVP.  A holtor EKG is a device used to hopefully capture an arrhythmatic (irregular heart beat) event to help diagnose any electrical impulse abnormality. And an EKG can indicate an enlarged left atrium and/or left ventricle....that would be an indirect result of a serious valve disorder....echo ruled that out for you...but it wouldn't require a holter?!

You are basing your concern on the report of a heart murmur!  It is apparent after reading your posts and medical report that the murmur heard is/was an innocent murmur.  It is not uncommon to have an innocent murmur and usually there are no other signs or symptoms of a heart problem.

I hope this helps assuage your concerns,  You have a very good echo report.  Take care.

I would definately say yes they would have caught it when they were checking your valves and seems like they didn't find anything significant on the valve morphology because i am sure all valves were checked not just the aortic........looks like you got a green light on these tests my friend now you just have to hang on thru the holter to be sure they don;t pick up any abnormalties in that....again with MVP the doc can usually hear it pretty clearly thru the stethescope becaue there will be a definate sound that they will catch like a swishing ....i think you can probably google out sounds of MVP on your computer and physically listen to what the video shows....but my big question to you would by "Why"?  So far so good as i always say don't bad ju ju yourself here....but i understand completely that until all of the tests are in your fate is in someone elses hands.....

Motion* not mition = correction.

Cindy707,

I read your profile and all I could say was wow! I actually went to pick up records from my stress echo.....which was performed 10/28/2007.

The results read:

Ventricular Chambers Size/Systolic Function:
A review of the study revealed that the left ventricular systolic function was overall normal. The left ventricular ejection fraction estimated at 70%. The left ventricle is normal size.

Wall Motion:
There is normal mition of all wall segments at rest. There is nromal motion of all wall segments with stress.

Valve Morphology:
There is no evidence of aortic root dilatation. Valvular morphology is normal. Normal Doppler flow patterns were displayed.

Normal stress echocardiogram.

Would they have found MPV then If I had it?

Hi well lets put it this way my friend...i was diagnosed with MVP in junior high school and i am now in my mid 50's, get it checked annually and its funny...all of these years later there is absolutely no change in my valve and i think that is pretty common place.  The mitral valve is a pretty resiliant valve and has alot of wear and tear in it and most people will never have issues with it altho some do i don't really know what the ear marks are for being in an at risk group.  You certainly i don;t think can judge it by lifestyle in terms of physical activity because thru all of those years i was a typical California surf chick or surf rat as we are known here in California...ran on an average of at least five miles a day, roller skated, in general just did whatever i wanted without giving a single thought to the MVP...the way my doc explained to me that MVP is that you take your two index fingers and put them together like a church steeple and let one or the other slide down the inside of the other finger say to the first interior knuckle area where the line is across the inside of your finger and then you'll understand what MVP is....one side of the valve is not closing tightly enough and is sort of flopping a little...MVP has varying degrees of prolapse and i know for myself mine is about to that first line of my finger...so when the valve opens and closes to receive and send blood into the system sometimes the floppy side interferes with the way its entering and leaving because its not opening and closing tightly.  Thats the short version....i suppose in the end it would depend of the degree of the prolapse that a person has but i know it is not a typically progressive situation and what it is may be just what it is....don;t scare yourself over this...its a pretty common occurance and unless your doc tells you something different your life shouldn't be effected by it......as Nike says Go For It (after you get permission from your doc of course!)

Cindy,

I think maybe four to five years ago I started exercising......and before I did my doctor had me doa stress-echo? They had me run and then put some scanner over my chest...you were able to see my heart pumping on a television. The doctor said my heart looked healthy. Would they have found it there? How much of a change would there be from then to now?

Hi. A holter measures surface electrograms (i.e. voltage differentials). Mitral prolapse is usually detected using some form of imaging (i.e. echocardiogram).

A holter is one of the tools that a doc can use to diagnose  MVP as the beginning of confirmation of the diagnosis because they will hear a specific swishing sound as the blood backs up a little or regurgitates as they say but the confirmation usually comes from the second tool which is an echocardiogram where they can physically see the valve and determine the degree of the prolapse and if it is within normal limits. Remember over thirty percent of the entire population has MVP so it is pretty commonplace and in most cases we all live with it and don't experience issues until much later in life..........
