COMBINATION OF RYTHYM PROBLEMS

My husband is in poor health cardiac wise...he is 10+ years mitral valve replacement, double bypass surgery.  He never really had a blood pressure problem, but, now is on  ramapril, he had another heart cath 12/08 due to some new problems...he is now in chronic A/fib. throwing PVC'S and now has V-TACH.  He had a bleed to his head 1/09...which they misdiagnosed as a brain tumor,  while working him up - his blood pressure was 200/111!!!  Yes, that is right....Prior to the most recent cardiac episode, they determined due to his V-Tach he may be a candidate for  a defibrillator...while in the hospital, he coded twice after a 1 1/2 week in hospital.  They called in electrophysiology, and then never did anything further...
I am assuming due to his cardiac history, they have decided he was not a candidate.  I am trying to prepare myself (never happen) for the inevitable shoe to drop...at one time they said he had the beginning of congestive heart failure...(a while back)  although I never heard any audible signs of same...I now hear a very loose cough seems to be more at night then AM.   Lately, I assume he is have TIA'S, as he is losing feelings in part of fingers alternate hands, sometimes tingling arms, sometimes losing total feeling in left arm (bleed was rt sided).  He recently has complained of extreme fatigue...not all the time.  I assume the end is near, just wondering time wise - is about 4-5 months a realistic time frame at this juncture?  (I realize it is in God's hands) - I am a realist - please be honest.

You are not alone, never be alone.
When worries come to me, I know I shall only rely on God
When scaring anxiety attacks, I know I shall only pray and wait for God's plan and timing
Philippians 3:7-8
But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things.

Only at this circumstance, we are so closer to Him and His will.
Do cherish the rest time you may spend with your husband, and keep faith the reunion in heaven for all, someday.
Thanks God, then you may have these words to Lord"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith!!"

And everything Brooke said made so much sense to me, listen to her, her words are wise, don't hesitate when it comes to asking questions and finding out answers, even 2nd or 3rd opinions, you have a right to be heard, and have all questions answered....

Hi Nancy!

I am very sorry to hear what your husband and YOU, his wife, have been through:( I can only imagine what this has been like for the both of you!

I am really struggling to understand why, after 2 codes, the EP did not implant an ICD...With his heart being in such a fragile and compromised state, this is certainly something that should be done and already have been done. Have you asked his Dr why they didn't implant an ICD?

Was the cerebral bleed in Jan related to severe hypertension or was this a result secondary to a clot from Atrial Fib? Is he currently on Coumadin?

Signs of congestive heart failure tend to be worse at night, especially when laying down. The extreme fatigue can be resulting from just about all the things hae currently has going on. Has he had any unexplained weight gain, even 2 lbs? When people are in or going into CHF, the fluid builds in the lungs and can cause weight gain.

As to the time frame, I don't think that this question can be answered by me or anyone else here. It worries me that his Dr is not giving him or you a real clear expectations. Has his Dr told you that there is nothing more that can be done? Also, how old is your husband?

Being a realist is a good thing but I am not sure that this should be the end of the road for treatment options.
