The pains do not sound like cardiac pains, but I think it is important to be sure. In my opinion, you need to see a cardiologist. They will do a h history and physical exam, EKG and probably an echocardiogram. They will probably also want to put you on a heart rhythm monitor to determine what your heart rhythm is when you are having these symptoms.
If the echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart), EKG, and history and physical are normal, it is unlikely that your pains are cardiac. The heart rhythm monitor will help determine what your heart is doing when you have the skipping sensation. In all likelihood, this is not dangerous, but it is worth looking.
With that history of esophageal problems, it is probably with seeing a GI doctor as well.
The best way to get your life back is the reassurance that nothing is wrong. You need to see a doctor and probably have some tests to get the reassurance.
I hope this helps. Thanks for posting.
