Heart Artrial filibration

I was newly diaganosed with atrial fibrillation. I do not know very much infomation about the heart problem. I was wondering If anyone who just started going through the same exact problem could tell me some informaiton about Atrial Fibrillaiton. I was also wondering what preventative measures that I can take so I do not have any more problems with the atrial part of the heart is there a medicine or some sort of diet that I can get on to prevent any more symptoms.

I year ago I was diagnosed with Afib. Put on Coumadin and Lanoxin. Did the blod tests each week to determine if I could be cardioverted. 1st cardio vert lasted 3 days and went back into AFib. Put on Amiodarone and cardioverted again 3 months later and so far in Sinus Rythmn. Hated sideffects of Amiodarone and stopped taking it. Cardiologist not happy about that decision and discharged me from his care.I've had every test available and everypicture they can take.  Have developed PVC's , Taking low dose aspirin daily and a diruretic (off of Avalide for blood pressure) and take 1/4 of a 0.5mg of klonopin 2 times a day(am/pm) for the anxiety from this experience. Am presently wearing a Holter monitor for PVC's for 10 days to see if PVC's are a serious problem.. Learning to not be scared and trying to live each day as it comes. Working with a Doc that actually gives a darn. Afib can make you tired and dizzy and the whole experience of heart problems will make you anxious which I think can add to the problem. Trust and pray. Eat clean and live each day like it's the last one. You too will survive and read this  Forum often. It's been a huge help to me.

First thing you need to do is find a  EP (Electrophylogist). An EP is a cardiologist that specializes in Rhythm problems. The EP will be able to determine by the severity of your a-fib what meds you need to take. Good Luck. I wish you well, and I wish you enough...

The first considerations with AFIb is the prevention of clots, a simple aspirin a day (with a meal is best) is a big help here, and controlling HR, keep it from going too high.  Here a beta blocker is usually used (a prescription drug).

If the symptoms are severe, they are not for many people, more aggressive drugs and invasive procedures may be the best path to a solution.

As I hope the link I provided explained, AFib is an electrical/timing/transmission problem in the heart and while many are able to convert to normal sinus rhythm (NSR) with drugs and/or electrocardioversion, some do not respond to those treatments.

As with most health problems, if it is caught early and you are not advanced years of age, say 70 and over, the chances for a recovery of NSR will more likely be successful.  Otherwise, many just live with the symptoms addressing the clot mitigation and rate control mentioned above.
