Heart flutter question

I'm unsure of what the official terminology would be for this so I'll just explain what is happening. Just over 2 weeks ago I began to get the occasional heart flutter. This began one day after a night of drinking alcohol. I also smoked 2 cigarettes on the same night which I would only do very occasionally now having given up smoking full time 2 years ago. These heart flutters would occur at random maybe 3 times a day and then wouldn't occur again for another few days. These would occur along with shooting pains in my head. I was putting the headaches down to the amount of time I was spending in front of a computer (my job entails 9 hours a day in front of a PC screen with very little breaks). The heart flutters occur at random and are causing me great alarm but then there's nothing and I return to normal. I had an ECG done 6-7 months ago and there were no issues then so I was wondering am I worrying unduly or do other people suffer similar episodes of heart flutters over an extended period before they then go away?

Hi i read your post.....there are a couple of flags that are pretty common that are thrown here to me.....heart flutters in themselves or generally pretty benign and stats show that 30% of the over all population has them.  I would almost bet my pink slip that the pains in your head are coming from poor ergonomics while you sit at the computer for all of those hours.  You seriously need to get yourself in the habit of every 45 min. standing up and doing on the head stretching w. your arms and doing a couple of back bends w. your hands on your hips...forward and backward and side to side... the great news is that your ECG came up fine so now you have to do process of elimination and try to find out what is setting them off.  When you say that you were drinking alcohol a huge no no is red wine...other things that set off fluttering and rapid hearts is coffee, iced tea, chocolate, sugars, energy drinks, anything w. electrolytes in them among a few and you need to make absolutely sure you are staying hydrating w. water because dehydration also sets off the episodes.  Stree and not getting a good nite of sleep is yet another culprit.  You may want to think about modifying your intake and habits a little to see if it helps and if all else fails call your doc and get a referral to a heart doc just for a follow up.  Sounds pretty simple to me what may be going on with you...it can't hurt to try but from what you are describing i seriously wouldn't be too worried.....good luck
