I'm a little concerned.

Had an electric cardioinvertion done day before yesterday and was taken off propafenone and put on amiodarone. Today I,m dropping beats and feel like I'm going in and out of afib.Bp running 140/112  Can't reach my DrM and I don't think I need to go to. The hospital, no chest pain. I'm seeing my heart Dr. In two days and will wait to do anything till then. Am I thinking correctly?

If they put you onto Amiodarone, you probably have a pretty stubborn arrhythmia to try and treat OR if you have a severe form of heart disease that would make it very risky for you to have a sustained arrhythmia. This is a drug of Last Choice only. The effects of the drug are still found in the tissues of the body for up to a year! It can cause hypothyroid issues (which do go back to normal after stopping the drug) crystals in the eyes, fibrosis of the lungs and liver problems. The skin turning blue can be permanent and you MUST avoid the sunn and even on cloudy days, you can still get burned enough to where you will swell up pretty bad. The sun block you would need should be VERY HIGH and even with that, you would still have to cover your body up, including wearing a wide brimmed hat. My daughter was on this drug for about 3 years, twice in her lifetime. Get off of it if you can!!!

Thank you all for taking the time to share. I'll be much better equipped to speak with my doctor.

I take sotalol and it works. Side fx are a bit of a problem though. Not toxic like amioderone. Just fatigue, dizziness etc. Many don't seem to be bothered like I am though so you may want to give it a try.

The drug you are talking about is Multaq or dronedarone I tried it, among others it was the least effective of all the drugs I tried. One I would recommend talking about is Sotolol It works pretty good in most cases and no real bad effects from it

I have had 9-10 cardio versions and never had that happen.. they tried to put me on  amiodarone and I was on it 30 days.. It is bad news.. I agree with Gary... get off the stuff as soon as you can.. I wish I had never taken it. It destroyed my triglyceride and HDL numbers in the 30 days I was on it..It can also mess up your thyriod and glucose numbers..  I am stuck with  bad triglyceride and HDL numbers for the rest of my life because of 30 days of amiodarone.... It is a half life drug and takes several months to get it out of your systems..and some things you cant get rid of it causes.. like my triglycerides that went from 140 to 600 after taking it...You have to avoid the sun when taking it..plus it can turn your skin blue colored... sorry to sound so negative..I take Flecainide now.. it keeps me out of AFib... its pretty bad stuff but not near as bad as Amiodarone...They have a new drug out that works like amiodarone.. with out the side effects... Id get them to try it or flecainide.... dunno..just my suggestions... Im not a doc... but have been dealing with Afib for 10-12 years...The bad thing in the amiodarone is the amount of idone it contains.. it contains several times what your body needs daily...and you cant get rid of iodine it what I was told my an endrocronologist.. hope this helps..I dont know if should go to the doc now or not.. personally if i went back into afib.. id probably go to the emergency room... no need to take a chance... You need to at least monitor your HR and as long as it is within reason IMO 2 days you can wait out. I would when you go though inquire about the amiodarone and what his intentions are. it is not a drug you want to stay on longe term as it has very toxic side effects.

best of luck
