Pacemaker atria lead.

Pacemaker atria lead.

I have been dealing with atrial flutter for 3 yrs. Have had 5 ablations, 1 left and right maping, 6 cardioversions and now ,recently an  Altura 60 DDDR pacemaker  model S603. It seems the implant has not changes my symponts, of feeling weak and short of breath. There are two leads. The venterical lead is working, my pule is 70 bpm , exactly what it is set for. However my atria are still in flutter and I just found out the atria lead is only monitering.
The question is. 1. Is the atria lead only monitering because it can't control the atriun?  2, Should it be able to control the Atria?  What is coming next?

Thank You In Advance
John

My limited understand of pacemakers is that it is used to make the heart beat, not to stop or somehow override unwanted beats (tachycardia, atrial flutter and fibrillation).

Of course when the atria are in fibrillation, and i think flutter, they are inefficient in they're role of "loading" the associated ventricle.  However, if the valves are working correctly the blood will flow into the ventricles and they will do their duty of pushing blood through the body.   Some, myself included, finds this condition to limited our ability to engage in "extreme" physical activity, e.g., running or mountain climbing.  But, I have read some posts suggesting otherwise, but that is my experience.
