PLAIN old run of the mill ectopics only?

I have been wondering how many people really have "benign pvc's."  Seems like a lot of people have PVC's plus A Fib or VT or whatever else?  I am wondering if PVC's morph into these things OR if the 2 or 3 conditions are unrelated.  I guess my biggest fear is that my diagnosed "benign" PVC's will become something more.  Is that likely?

Thank you very much for your very helpful posts. I've had sporadic bouts of "benign" pvcs since I was a teenager. Now 42, and still having them, but still after testing considered benign. I have noticed though that there seems to be a connection between gassiness and feeling the ectopic beats. I have GERD and when stomach feels bloated, I seem to notice more pvcs. Do you know anything about a relationship between the two?

Hi Carey, I used to get a crushing chest pain, radiating up my neck and jaw, and into my left arm, also in my back.  This started in my early 20s.  Long story short, took me many years and many doc visits to figure out I was lactose intolerant.  I stopped dairy and have been fine for the past 12 years.  I'm not saying that's what's up with you, just relating how these pains can be "referred" sometimes.  It's always good to get checked out.  If everything is OK, look for other causes, try to keep a log of what you eat and when you get the pains.

Carey, Carey , Carey i'm about to make your day.  You seriously need to relax a little bit. I know it is hard to listen to other people but try to remember that many of us have gone thru what you have and alot of us are success cases.  Itdood was right on the mark......because you have PVC's in most cases that it and thats all no progressive disease sneaking in or any of that.  Where i am going to make your day is this......i have a pretty heavy duty medical background including being an ACLS instructor or Advanced Cardiac Life Support among many other things.  First off let me tell you the symtoms that you are worried about and have described are in no way the symtoms a female experiences when having a heart attack so rest easy there.  The typical and common symtoms of a female heart attack are :  slight shortness of breath, clammy hands and body not sweaty, upper or lower back pain, pain that radiates into your face or facial pain, nausea, flu like symtoms, stomach pain.  We do not have the same symtoms as a male and there is actually a pretty neat reason why.  You would not be having the symtoms that you are stating.  The reason why women are different is genetics.  When a man is conceived and his life begins in his mothers womb think of a little baby or doll a very tiny one...the organ placement at the beginning of conception is totally different.  The heart for a male actually sits at the back of their neck on the left side and as the baby grows the heart drops down into place in the center of the chest slightly to the left.....and that is why their symtoms are totally different ie. L. arm pain, L. jaw pain, etc.  The PVC's should not be ruining your life Carey you are letting them get the best of you here.  Because you are so stressed out you may very well be clenching your teeth and grinding them during your sleep at nite not even knowing it.  You would not even believe it but literally thousands and thousands of people have these and don't even feel them in their lifetime.  It does not mean you are going to drop dead, does not mean you have to worry about your family, does not mean that this is going to lead to bigger and worse things and probably won't.  The best advice that i can give you female to female Carey is to either sign up at a gym or start walking on your lunch hour or after dinner at nite.  Help exercise your heart to minimize the feelings you are feeling in the heart.  I think you need to talk to your doc about either putting you on a light beta blocker like antenolol in a low dose so that these things go away or some sort of anti anxiety med temp. just until you can get thru this.  Go back to work Carey,,,,live your life,,,,,the odds are better for you to win the lotto than you dropping dead from benign PVC's.  Stop being your own worst enemy...we all know its scary...been there done that and just be so thankful my friend that you have nothing classified as serious going on w. your heart....you a an incredibly lucky person..........good luck and sorry if i was a little rough on you but its only because i do care that i am.....

Thanks for the response.  ITs really been a hard run lately of these things.  You know what really bothers me -- when I get them I get typical heart attack type symptoms.  Pain down my arm and in my neck and up into my jaw.  Scares the %^$% out of me!  My Dr says the 2 arent related -- that the arm, neck, jaw pain are muscle related because I have an issue with tight muscles on that side.  Does that sound right? I have just heard about so many people with that type of pain and it turns out to be a blockage or something.    THIS IS RUINING MY LIFE!  Honestly, I havent even been in my office for 6 days becasue of this -- and Im the boss.  Looks pretty pathetic.  As you guys can probably tell -- Im starting to lose ot from these things!!

Long term studies have found that people with benign PVCs with no underlying heart disease are not associated with an increased risk of mortality.

Sorry to be so general, but it is what it is.

When I think of arrhythmias I see a spectrum.  Every case is different.  It's not possible to put diagnostic categories into broadly separated buckets.    PVCs alone can be placed into many different categories, with many different causes.   example, there are benign, there are benign-infrequent, there are infrequent-isolated, there are infrequent-grouped, or benign-infrequent-isolated, or benign-infrequent-grouped-unifocal.......you get the picture.   I can go on and on.

Sometimes you can make assumptions about what the future holds, but for benign, infrequent, isolated PVCs, studies have shown there is no increase in mortality over the normal population.
