I feel like I dont have any triggers. They totally come out of the blue and run at a high number of them for weeks and then just stop as fast as they came. BUT they have been doing that ever since I got diagnosed with acid reflux and an ulcer. Luckily I sold my business this year so as of very recently my stress level has gone WAY, WAY down. I jsut hope at some point there is research to stop these things cause they seem t affect a lot of people and there doesnt really seem to be a lot of answers.
I know it drives me a little crazy when they say they are normal and everyone has them. I can accept that everyone may get some at some point in their life but I don't believe that everyone has them everyday like some would want you to believe but Is Some Thing Wrong is right, it is more a matter of them being dangerous to your health and well being. You are averaging around 4,000 ectopics a day. That is quite a few but not enough for my EP to do much about them. He did suggest that if I continued to feel poorly he would try beta blockers. They do sometimes help people to feel better though not everyone. I had a bad bout of them last fall where I was averaging around 10,000 a day but they eventually eased up so I did not try the BBs myself. I still get them everyday, some days I don't notice them as much and other days they seem to go crazy but as time goes by they are loosing a bit of their distracting aspects. I'd say, like was suggested, try and find the things that aggravate them the most and work to elimnate them from your life. My stomach actually has a fairly large impact on mine. And stress for sure is a big trigger. I know none of this makes it any easier to accept. It is very dissappointing to have something that makes you feel kind of poorly and there be little that can be done to help. And so unfortunately for those of us who have them it is really up to us to figure out how to accept what is going on and have faith our heart's aren't falling apart. From what I have read people have lived well into old age with them without any issue so I guess that is something good to focus on.
Well hang in there. Hopefully if you can pinpoint some of your triggers you can get them to ease up a bit. Or at least hopefully they will loose abit of strength so you feel them less. But just know you are not alone. There are many on here in the same spot as you so if you ever need to talk we are here. Take care.
It just seems like that many is really high. I dont know -- it just seems very high to me.
Well, it's not "normal" to have that many premature/skipped beats, but then again, what is normal? You need to remember, there is a difference between "abnormal" and "dangerous".
What your doctor could have said was: "You have a fairly high amount of ectopic beats, but it's not dangerous". Would that have been better?
Your doctor can see if the ectopic beats look similar, when they origin, etc. Based on that, he can evaluate if your condition needs treatment or not. What you can do is try to find a cause for your skipped beats, have you done any lifestyle changes? Stress? Recent infections? Coffee?
If you haven't already, you may consider visiting a cardiologist and get an ultrasound of the heart, and a stress test, but that would maybe just increase the focus on your heart? You can ask your doctor if that sounds reasonable to do or not..
