vsd heart murmur

i was born with a vsd heart murmur, lately i've noticed that my heart beat is alot louder and i feel numb sometimes. i know that numbness is caused by a lack of blood supply and heart murmurs can cause a lack of blood supply 4 your body. How can i correct this? I don't like going to doctors because they never have an answer for anything so if its just that i need to eat healthier or a particular type of food i should eat than i'd rather just know...

I believe an echocardiogram is the best way to go.  I was diagnosed with IHSS(Idiopathic Hypertrophic Subaortic Stenosis) when I was 17 years old and I too have a murmur.  I took medication until I was 30.  I was told that I would have to take meds for the rest of my life. I am now 52 and I haven't taken any meds, I see my cardiologist once per year.  I exercise, eat well and live a very productive lifestyle.  You will do yourself well by following up with the Dr.  I'm sure you won't regret it.  Wishing you well.

Hello,
If you have a structural heart disease (VSD), you need to see your doctor.  There is a push in the American College of Cardiology to not forget patients with congenital heart disease because there can be consequences later in life.  I am not saying that I think there is something wrong, but you are at higher risk than the general population because you have structural heart disease (VSD).  I am not sure what causes the numb feelings, but that is best to talk to doctor face to face because EKG and possible an echocardiogram may be necessary.

I know this is not the reassurance that you want, but it is important for you to stay in touch with your cardiologist if you have a VSD.

I hope this helps.

Hi I just didn't want you to feel like noone cared. I am not familiar with this at all, but hopefully the dr. will answer you soon. In the mean time, you can research it online or call and ask a  nurse at your dr. office. Just tell them you want to speak to a nurse.
