Very high SGPT level

Hi all
I found out that the SGPT level in my blood was 2736 after i had fever for more than a week.SGOT was 360 and bilurubin count was 20.6.  Doctor diagonised that i have Hepatitis A and i took 2 full months bedrest. My SGPT subsided to 136. SGOT currently is 46.Bilurubin count is 0.9. My doubts are
(a). should i prolong my rest (I am back at work at full swing in a software firm) (b). Was my condition just jaundice or will there be any liver disorder. (c) Presently i have stopped taking any medication. Should i start anything.

Please respond as i am very worried because of my lack of knowledge about this and also because of differing opinions from many sources.

Liver enzymes are produced when a cell in your liver dies it releases the enzyme.  So when you have a HIGH liver enzyme level like you do ... it means that something is killing the cells.

Now you were sick and probably on medications and stuff and they could both raise your numbers significantly.

Has your doctor tested you for HepC?  I would rule that stuff out and then monitor my numbers for a little while just to make sure they went back down.

But I'd imagine if you were very sick and on potent meds (that your liver has to break down) ...

None of us are doctors in here...just so you know.  We are 99.9% HepC patients that share knowledge together.

Thanx nygirl...
I was on medication jus because i had this high bilurubin and enzyme count. I checked for Hep A,B& C. A gave positive result and rest were negative. does the very high count in SGPT in the begininng mean any permanent damage or any potential damage to liver???

I don't really know...but I do think if it resolves (or should I say when it resolves) it will all be fine.

Most of us in here have had a disease killing our livers for well over 20 years straight - and many aren't very far along in the progression of liver disease (I however am as a stage 3)

So I'd think your chances have to be great!

I'm sure someone who knows more than me will come in and advise you - but I would be talking to my doctor about this.  He would know more what is going on with your illness and how you got this.
