Advice on Hepititis B

Hi there, completely new to this site. I recently started dating a guy since January 2016. I had been in a relationship for 9 years prior to this. I began dating this guy in January. We slept with each other for the first time in April. I had asked about getting STD check and we both made appointments as we had unprotected sex. My results came back clear 2 weeks later. Unfortunately for him this was not the case. He tested positive for Hep B and is a chronic carrier. He never knew.  They have told him that his viral load is low. I don't know what any of this means. I have since been for 2 blood tests both negative and I had the rapid vaccine. I ended it but had serious regrets and we have just started seeing each other again. We have had sex but it has been protected. I'm just wondering what are the chances I get it now and/or In the future. Is it possible to have a long term relationship with someone who is a carrier without having fear of contracting it. What does it mean for having kids. I would appreciate it if anyone is in a situation where their loved one has it and they don't. Please don't copy and paste articles because I am blue in the face from reading all of them. Would love to talk to someone in a similar situation.

I was in the same exact situation. I was married prior to that and my ex of more than 15 years did not contracted the virus (this is what she said) and our son is healthy as well. My new gf got vacineted after I found out about it. We have been together for a year now. I don't take any meds but I monitor my situation every 3 months. If you are serious about it go for it. Tomorrow is not promised to anybody. And what's the most important... don't judge him about his condition. In my case, I never paid for sex or had one night stand but somehow I end up with it. Good luck!

You can go for expedite Vaccine one.You would have developed antibodies after 3 months. Once you develop antibodies, no need to fear for HBV transmission to you. You are all set.!! Although I was married 3-4 years ago, my wife didn't get HBV. She got accelerated HBV vaccine and developed antibodies now..so, u chill out !!!

Thanks for your reply. I've had the vaccine. They gave me the rapid form. In that usually they give it over a 6 month period but because I had been potentially exposed to the virus I got all three shots in one month. If his viral load count is low and I've received the vaccine and I don't have it and I keep up with the vaccinations when they are needed I won't be putting myself, or if I have kids, at risk?

HBV vaccine is effective in ~95% percent of people. If you have the 3 injections over 6 months and your surface antibodies test at above 10IU/ml then you cannot become infected. If you're not infected, there is no possibility of mother to child transmission during childbirth.

If you're infected as an adult you have a greater than ~90% chance of clearing the virus in the acute phase. This is corroborated by various studies. I can't possibly calculate your chances of contracting the virus, but taking any risk at all doesn't really make any sense to me when you can just go get the vaccine.
