Hep B Testing Question / ALT

Dear Forum,

I recently had a routine physical done, and my labwork returned an abnormal liver function test. My results were AST: 88 (norm of 0-40) and ALT: 58 (0-55). He indicated that because of the numbers were "abnormal" protocal was to follow up for Hep B and C among other tests. Each of the other areas of the LFT were returned normal.

My hep B and C tests were returned negative, to which he indicated would rule out hepatitis. As you can imagine, I have spent a considerable amount of time on this forum, and as such, wondered if an acute or newly infected person would have numbers reflective of mine AST 88 and ALT 58 in the instance of a new infection or if they would be much higher?

It is worthy of note that I am about 50 pounds overweight.

I have read that typically ALT is higher than the AST and the numbers in an acute case are generally 10 times the high end of what is considered normal? What is the testing window for tests to be considered conclusive?

Are my numbers considered abnormal, mildly elevated, high or dangerously elevated?

When do some of the tests become conclusive in terms of Hepatitis B? Is my HbSag test considered conclusive at 90 days post potential exposure?

Stef,

So based on my tests for Hep B, would my 90 day tests be considered conclusive? My AST is 88 and my ALT is 55, 90 days after my only possible exposure was recieving oral sex from a woman 90 days ago. My HBSAG was negative at 90 days....Doctor ran additional testing to rule out additional causes, and they came back negative. I am trying to rule out Hep B....very scared. My only fear is this was acute and the tests missed it....

Please help.....thank you for the wonderful response and the help you provide on this topic..

It is worthy of note that I am about 50 pounds overweight....

and it is very rare to have a healthy liver being overweight.you have probably nash, fatty liver or metabolic syndrom, check my posts about faty liver and how i reversed it in a couple of months as regards blood tests,, histologically it takes years usually but we will see after the scans the 26th of may

an ultrasound can confirm fatty liver but not degree of damage, the cure is healthy food like i did, antioxidants from food or if supplements extracted from food sources, excercise, losing weight, omega 3 with dha and epa minimum 1-2g

hbv and hcv are not the reason, there is no alt rise until you start clearing the virus after months from acute infection and al antigens and dna detactable.the virus itself makes no damage to the liver it is your immune system clearance to kill the cells and rise alt, so this is not your case

in case ultrasound cannot see fat in the liver a biopsy is necessary
