PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

Iam still confused because most internet sites are stating that an isolated anti hb core can mean the following

1) an acute infection (which i dont have)
2) False positive (test were done more than once to rule out)
3) distantly immune
4) CHRONIC CARRIER WITH LOW LEVELS OF SURFACE ANTIGENS.

number 4 is what scares me!!! Plus the hbv dna states that levels of hep b that are undetectable does not rule out someone being a carrier. My husband wants me to abort the child based on the risks and i agree. no doc can clarify whether or not i am a carrier and that is scary!!! Please help me someone im going crazy!!!!!!!!!!

Can you get hep b even if you have the vaccine?

plus when i donated blood they said it was  a false positive could it just be to early for the test?

catglo,

I will add to my above post.  Many years ago I too had hep B.  My blood tests came back HBsAg-negative, anti-HBc-positive and anti-HBs-positive.  These tests meant that I once had an active virus but my body cleared the virus on its own and that I now had a natural immunity to hep B.  Please see this link from the CDC on how to read test results: http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/diseases/hepatitis/b/Bserology.htm

FAST FORWARD 15 YEARS:
15 years later when I was diagnosed with high liver enzymes my doctor ran a hepatitis panel (A,B&C).  This test showed that I had hep C.  In respect to hep B it showed that I had:
HBsAg-negative, anti-HBc-positive and anti-HBs-negative which is the same condition that you now have.

My first doctor said that he wasn't sure what the results meant so he sent me to a gastro that has a lot of experience with hepatitis.  The gastro told me that after many years that people often loose the detectable amount of anti-HBs in their blood.  He added that it was not necessary to get an immunization for hep B because even though the anti-HBs is not dectectable anymore that I still had immunity for life.

I contacted the CDC for their opinion via this link:
http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/diseases/hepatitis/contactus.htm
A doctor from the CDC agreed with my gastro and told me that I was indeed immune for life even though I had no detectable anti-HBs.  He added that immunity from a natural infection is even better than immunity from a vacination because the immunity is for life.

It could be that we have the exact same history except that you weren't tested for anti-HBs years ago when you were infected.  It may be that you had the anti-HBs years ago but that the anti-HBs became undetectable over the years.

I too was worried over my test results but not anymore.  It is probable that you are worried over nothing.  Find yourself a KNOWLEGEABLE gastro or hepatologist to speak with so that you can put this matter to rest.

Please don't think you are a "bother." And please don't stop posting just because you feel a couple of people came down on you a little hard. We all understand what you are going through and are quite sympathetic... the resources available to us on this forum  are small and precious. Now you know!

I did some reading. It seems the possibilities are three, you have no virus, you have benign chronic persistent hepatitis, or you are active chronic.

Your tests would be different if you were active chronic. That really eliminates the worst case scenario. Benign chronic persistent hep isn't great news, but certainly is not nearly as bad as your fears are making things out to be - it is benign to you and you have routine blood work like anyone else for the next 100 years. The best (and most likely) is you don't have any virus.

I really don't know what else I can do or say. The "evidence" should be strong enough to reduce your anxiety... relax and enjoy Christmas. God bless.  -Michael

I for one think catglo is looking for a reason to abort.

Catglo, you have my permission to creat any crisis, real or imagined, to do what you want.

Your results have been explained politely and rationally for days now.  There are potentionally 3,000,000 hep c victims in the USA alone (1% of 3hundred million) and only 6 questions a freakin' day.  What makes you so mush more important that yopu take up 30-40% or more of the questions aday?

Did I miss you being crowned queen of the web?  God?

I'll respond with equal bs everytime you waste space for an uninformed internet opinion.  My opinion, uninformed, is you should work on people skills before you worry about potential, non-existant complications from a non-existant med condition.

We get it.  You may have had hep b and may be a carrier b/2 docs can't say for sure.  So what the h*** do you think we can do? Do you use sex protection-saliva is included?  Do you have seperate laundry loads (machines) do you use seperate utinsels?  Do you keep all toothbrushes, razors, soaps, etc seperate?  Do you use a sperate bathrm?

How contagious do you think you are?  Do you tell your hair dresser, wait person, dentist, nurses and family and co=workers you ar a walking germ bomb?  If not, you really don't think you are infectious.  If you do, you have nothing to worry about.

I can certainly understand your frustration. Hep B is even more complicated to understand than the Hep C that most of us all deal with here. The blood tests are not always definitive. It takes a real expert to decipher them sometimes and even then it's sometimes just an educated guess.
My point before was that no matter the result of your carrier status your baby should be just fine. There are a lot of risks associated with childbirth even if everything is "normal". Your risks (even as a possible carrier) are still no greater than before. I sure hope you can accept this.
Having a baby is a VERY special thing. You should be enjoying this time. This is just the first thing you will have to face as a parent. There will be MANY more things that you will have to watch and just hope for the best. You will be frightened MANY times before that kid grows up. It's natural. Kids are amazingly resilient. They survive MANY things that would just kill any adult. Their immune systems are surprisingly tough. Still...we always worry.
You will be fine....
Best of luck with your new family........

I know you are scared. I will expand on my earlier post. My wife is a carrier. She was bafore we had our kids. We have 3 kids. 1 was natural birth....27 HOURS OF LABOR!! I have scars from that! The other 2 were C-section. Lotsa blood involved there. NONE of them have hep B. NONE OF THEM. It was never even worried about as far as the birth stuff was concerned. They weren't even tested for several years after. They are fine. SHE is fine. I am fine. YOU will be too.
I hope you can put this outa your mind and just enjoy your new life with your little miracle from GOD. Worry about your unknown carrier status after your baby comes and you are done playing with the new toy. It's really just not that big of a deal.
Take care............

You said it well, ringading.

Catglo: W/only 6 -yes, six(hopefully) new threads-questions-for a whole world wide of sick people each day, you, catglo, are needlessly taking up space to ask an unanswerable question-at least by us out here in our own little 'puter worlds.

Your chances and worries are not based on fact, and worst case scenario, slim to none.

I want to send you off to another site where I think you may find some peace of mind. Click on this <a href="http://www.hivandhepatitis.com/hep_b/basic.html">link</a> and feel better.

Also, the folks here have all been to gracious to say it, but grace is just not in my nature, so I'll say it:

90% of people with HBV self cure. You insult people with comments like "hep B is much worse than hep C", and if they aren't insulted for themselves, I am fr them as I watch this terrible affliction take it's toll on my husband. Please get your facts straight about the differences between HBV and HCV. Unlike many of those here, the odds are truly in your favor.

My thoughts are with you,
Debbe

Please, please calm down. The "odds" are highly in your favor. With some of these tests there is no absolute certainty, but with the weight of all the tests together, you probably are okay.

The hep B vaccine is sometimes administered in just such circumstances and then the immune response monitored to determine if you have the virus or had the virus. This is probably not an option since you are pregnant AND the other tests tilt towards you not having an active infection.

I don't normally write so emphatically, but DON'T MAKE ANY HASTY DECISIONS! Right now your emotions are fueling fears and nightmares and everything is distorted by this magnification of your fears. The only decision you need to make today is resolve to understand with the help of competent, reliable doctors, medical services what is going on and assess the implications and TO RELAX.

I pray for you and your family. I understand how test results can turn your world upside-down. Truly, I believe you are better served by being calm. God bless.  -Michael

I appreciate your comment, but at least you know that you are a carrier, I don't and probably will never know with my type of results. im really scared because hep b is much worse than hep c as far as diagnose and liver disease and cancer. if i was a carrier the gi doc told me they couldnt treat me without detectable levels of hbv dna or evidence of liver damage and he did not recommend a biobsy either. my ob gyn doesnt understand the results either he thinks im not a carrier based on the negative hbsag but he is not a specialist. there are no hepatologist in my area and the 2 two gi docs that i seen gave me contray advice. one said that i dont have it the other said there is a small possibility with my type of results. im really tired of not knowing. im glad you are in good health and your family and kids.

Back up the truck!!!!!!!! Being a carrier is not the end of the world, if you are. I have hep C and have two great kids and they are both NEGATIVE. DO NOT go to the local abortion clinic and have an abortion based on the few facts that you have. If nothing else, have an amniocentisis, if you are that worried and obviously, you are. You will get through this. Looks like you have been exposed, maybe sometime ago. Read the posts that people have written you. If your liver enzymes are OK, then you should have no problem going to term. Just calm down. Most of us on here have lived with this for 15-30 years and we have families. Tell your husband to calm down. You could have had this before you had your last baby and it not have been detected. Stress is not good for you, especially pregnant.
Try to hang on to some sanity and wait till you get a chance to see a doctor and get some real info
Good luck and try to have a happy holiday

I really appreciate your knowledge on this subject! What bothers me is that this information was published by Doctors. And when I addressed it to my GI doc he agrees and thinks there is a possiblity of me being a carrier. He said there is no definitive answer for these type of results. Its ambiguous! My husband has been vacinated years ago and i assume thats why i did not give it to him. my two children was tested today, but wont know the results unitl next week sometime. Can you tell me if there is a way to rule out this "carrier" possibility. The internet info suggest that i get vaccinated even while pregnant with my type of results. Please help me understand i hate to be a pain especially on xmas eve. Im sorry!! I just have not been able to get this off my mind especially in my condition.

thank you!!!!!!!!!!

SLOW DOWN! My wife is a hep B carrier....has been for a LONG time. We have 3 beautiful children and ALL are just FINE! She is also a nurse and has had no problems in her work life either. We have been married for 27 years(I think) and I don't have it. I'm not sure why you're so worried. Even if...IF...you were a carrier that doesn't mean you're gonna have a giant eyeball for a baby or something strange. My teens are just all crazy....but that's normal for teens. That...and they have ME for their parent. Hahahahahaha

catglo,

I agree with tri-guy.  GI.PA told you in a previous post in part "A prior infection does not increase you or your babies risk".  For what it is worth she is a Physician's Assistant that deals with many hepatitis cases.

Please find a knowledgeable doctor to speak with before taking such drastic measures.  You are probaly worried over nothing.

Catgo,

The chance that the Hep B core antibody is from a previous exposure or infection is extreamly more likely than a potential (an non-textbook pattern) of a carrier (no Hep B surface antigen..ect).

You absolutely should NOT be making the decision to keep or abort your baby base on INTERNET information. Talk to your OB, get a gastroenterology consult if neccessary.  Worse case senerio, IF you were a carrier (I believe extreamly unlikely), your chance of passing it to your baby is extreamly unlikely (baby will be vaccinated, and may recieve immunoglobulin at birth, if mom is known carrier).

Get the info before you make a rash decision you may regret when you have "all the info" later.

Did you read the responses to your previous posts?

I'm not sure just what risks your freaking out about.  I would certainly talk to your doctor as soon as possible about your concerns before you make any drastic decisions.
