bilirubin level high, the liver is not working badly, rarely on acute hepatitis and more common on advanced cirrohosis.
altogether with PT and seroproteins, and other tests can measure liver function but all testes must be considered together by a doctor plus there must be a reason for this: hepatitis, alcolism, steatosis etc

alt and ast are levated in the moment liver cells are dying but they are elevated in many diseases related to herat, kidney, muscles so not only liver.so again many tests are needed altogether for an expert docotor to know the cause

if hbsag is positive hbv is probably the cause but might be also others

High liver enzymes have different causes and do not have to be related to bilirubin level.
