Hi Im so scared, could someone please help me i have a quick question.does hep b vaccine protect against precore mutant hep b? I understand it doesn't protect against S protein mutant since it's surface protein, just not sure If that's the only type of mutation it doesn't protect.
My boyfriends E antigen just turned from positive to negative however the DNA is still positive, this should mean he has precore mutation I have antibody just not sure whether he is able to infect me if he has mutated.
I am not an expert but I will give you my opinion. Your Surface antibodies should protect you against the pre core mutant hbv virus because the surface antigen is still the same. So the antibodies will still attach to the surface of the virus and prevent it from entering the liver cell.
I am not sure just because your boyfriend's e antigen had just turned negative and that he still has detectable hbvdna, then he must be pre core.
Thank you so much for your reply. Im not too sure either hehe I can't wait for a specialist to check if he has mutation but cos the waiting list is so long. He won't be seen for a few month. I wasn't worried for my own health as I thought since I have antibody I will be safe. But my liver area has not been feeling well. And there's information online that saids vaccine doesn't protect mutations:( so I got worried. I'm wondering how we can tell if his surface antigen has mutated and how to tell if I'm infected. I'm guessing if I'm infected with mutated antigen then normal test might not pick it up... But it might show up in liver function test or DNA right?
Any help would be much appreaciated. Thank you so much.
