From fellow HepB people I talk to, thier doctors (and mine) decided on treatment without doing a biopsy. You could normally determine if it's a active disease from labs alone. Treatment is pretty much the same.
On the other hand, I know of doctors who won't treat unless a biopsy is done.
So I guess, if your MD is knowledgeable of HepB, perhaps you MD would know best since MD is familiar with your wife's case.
Good luck.
I am not familiar with the type Drugs used to treat HBV.I was glad to read your Dr. is taking precautions. I have HCV, because of the Meds. I am on I was instructed to use 2 forms of birth control to assure no pregnancies. Not that it really matters anyway. My lack of desire for Sex was my first Side Effect.
I think I will go cry now, R. Glass
I checked with the doctor today. He said he need biopsy to decide whether it's necessary for my wife to take certain drugs to treat her HBV. He said the drug may affect the pregnancy.
I agree with zellyf.
Ask your doctor for the specific reason for wanting to doing a biopsy. Was it because of persistent high ALT or something on a sonogram?
Why did the doctor want to biopsy? Sometimes a doc will want to see what is going on in the liver as part of a decision on whether or not to begin treatment. Maybe her lab work gave him a reason for wanting to biopsy?
She has chronic hepatitis B. She does not have HCV.
It’s hard to say. You never mentioned if she has HCV. If she has HCV, I can understand why he would want to do a Biopsy.
Does your wife have chronic Hepatitis B? HepC?
