Take Viread with calcium and vitD?

My doctor suggests me taking Viread with both calcium and vitD. The drug information also has the similar suggestion, maybe because it might cause bone problems, soft or thin bones. But I remember a general view here is that we should avoid high calcium food like dairy products while taking vitD. Confused...

If you take the real dose needed to get sufficient (vitd dose that makes pth lowest range norm) all calcium from food will be absorbed and it will be too much fromhigh calcium content food

that stupid suggestion to take calcium is because most rda suggested vit d doses are useless and homeopatic making no calcium absorption and we dont use those wrong low doses here

Yes, I only did fibroscan. The score is 7.5. Then my doctor decided to offer me treatment.

Chang have you done fibroscan before starting antiviral medicine. Or liver biopsy

anyway lower dose to daily now and then recheck by 4 weeks

be careful if you take toxic drugs, for example i had to take antibiotics this winter and it increased my creatinine from 0.8 to 1.2 which is borderline normal, since also tdf can be toxic when kidneys are damaged we have to be careful when taking drugs with kidneys toxcity.this is forcing me to stop vit d for few weeks and restart heptech supplements to correct creatinine back to 0.8, but anyway with cuban vaccine available and rep9ac or similar drug good development i see hbv will have a short future....

Does it mean I am at risk for calcium deficiency?

if so it is not calcium that helps but vit k2 mk4 45mg daily (this also prevents hcc on human trials in japan) and vit k2 mk7 200mcg at least

Maybe it still need some time for Viread to take effect

probably, i only got alt very low to less than 20 after pegintf add on, before that i reached around 30 after years of tdf

OK. But my first bone density test on June shows that it is below expected range of age. Does it mean I am at risk for calcium deficiency?

The calcium blood level is normal. The creatinine is low as before. ALT is still high. Maybe it still need some time for Viread to take effect.

Creatinine umol/l [64-104] 54 L
ALT U/L [0-54] 67 H
AST U/L [5-45] 39

yes now lower the dose and use it daily, taken weekly is useless because despite blood vitd25oh is so high you go deficient in tissues by few days because vit d25oh is only the substance in blood then it turns to other substances to be used in tissues which have only 24hrs half life so it declines.weekly dosing have shown no positive effects in trials and sometimes even worsening

you also need to check intact parathormone to know if it got to toxic levels or still deficient and you need a doctor to monitor also creatinine and calcium blood and urine levels

now it is best you lower dose to 5000iu daily and have doctor check after 3-4 weeks:
vitd25oh
intact parathormone
creatinine
calcium in blood
calcium in urine

Hi stef2011,

After taking Biotech Vit D 50,000iu/per week for several months, my Vit D level went up to 296 nmol/l on July 20. Should I reduce the dosage? The test suggests it is possibly toxic when Vit D > 200 nmol/l.

to monitor calcium you need both serum calcium, ionized calcium and intact pth-serum calcium is rarely low because the body keeps it steady levels by taking it from food if vit d sufficient (low norm range pth) or from bones if vit d deficient (high norm range pth)

the serum calcium is good if you want to check for excess calcium and urine calcium is even more accurate for excess because the body will try to get rid of excess ca from urine first and will rise i blood only after urine is too high.damage will happen when blood levels get above 13dl/ml for many days/few weeks.damage has always been reversible by drinking a lot of water and rarely by using of ca blockers

Sounds reasonable.

If you take vid D you should take vit k2mk7 and magnesium. k2mk7 helps to move calc from blood to bones, magnesium is vit D cofactor.
