I will love to know how you are doing in the coming months. I wish you success with the Tenofovir. My doctor has not prescribed any drug for me yet until my viral load test result is out in September. I guess that the delay is due to technical issues.
Thank you all. I will now assume it is safe to continue with my medication. My fear was stopping the antiviral within 1 month and its attendant consequences. I do not have any kidney issue.l
This is an intriguing strategy to take antiviral when you are HBeAg negative with low viral load (less than 2,000 iu/ml). So I wonder what is your doctor's plan?
On the one hand, we know it is desirable to have undetected or undetectable viral load, and to have this for a period of time. On the other hand, what will happen when stop the antiviral? will there be a shift in the balance of immune control that existed prior to taking antiviral?
It is a safe and very potent antiviral but you will want to make sure your kidneys can handle the medication, as it is excreted through the kidneys so can be too hard on those with kidney issues already. Have creatinine checked first.
Another thing, antivirals like Tenofovir or Entecavir are not a medication to take for only a month. If you are HBeAg positive then you can try and stop of you convert to HBeAg negative, but often the viral load will still be increased and may need to go back on. If you are HBeAg negative now then most doctors will say medication for life, unless you seroconvert HBsAg to negative, which is rare.
I have been on Tenofovir for almost 5 months with no issues.
