do we ever be cured

I was diagnosed hep b 3mths ago. I recovered pretty quickly. Everything functioning normal. I want to know if there is any way of having it but not pass it on and how do we find out for sure. Before i found out i had it i had slept with someone . I got him to get tested and he was ok. Is there any chance could i be that lucky?

Hi Gwen,

You CAN test positive for Hep B and still not be infectious, it all depends on which antigen/antibody is positive or negative.  You'll need a test done for that.   Antibodies can read as follows:

Hep B Surface Antigen (HBsAg)
Positive = virus is present
Negative = virus is NOT present

Hep B surface antibody (anti-HBs)
Positive = immunity/non-contagious
Negative = no immunity / contagious

Hep Be antigen (HBeAg)
Positive = high VL and highly infectious
Negative = less infectious

Positive for that Hep B surface antibody is what you want.

I'm not sure I completely understand.  You were having an acute hep b infection and then you cleared it?  And your partner tests fine?  That all sounds very good to me.  What is your concern?

Most adults who get hep B do clear it.  And sexual contact with an acute sufferer doesn't guarantee becoming infected.

I hope I got it right and you've cleared it without passing it along. Cheers.
