Hi Gwen,
You CAN test positive for Hep B and still not be infectious, it all depends on which antigen/antibody is positive or negative. You'll need a test done for that. Antibodies can read as follows:
Hep B Surface Antigen (HBsAg)
Positive = virus is present
Negative = virus is NOT present
Hep B surface antibody (anti-HBs)
Positive = immunity/non-contagious
Negative = no immunity / contagious
Hep Be antigen (HBeAg)
Positive = high VL and highly infectious
Negative = less infectious
Positive for that Hep B surface antibody is what you want.
Good luck.
Trish
I'm not sure I completely understand. You were having an acute hep b infection and then you cleared it? And your partner tests fine? That all sounds very good to me. What is your concern?
Most adults who get hep B do clear it. And sexual contact with an acute sufferer doesn't guarantee becoming infected.
I hope I got it right and you've cleared it without passing it along. Cheers.
