hbv cccDNA

I have yet to see any new drug research that aims to directly target the main culprit in the restoration of a chronic hbv infection-i.e. the cccDNA. Why are not researchers focusing on this; to me any other drugs being devloped aim to target the secondary products of the hbv infection-that is the viral protiens like hbeag and hbsag.
May be we have to put our hope in the new technology of CRISPR for hbv cure? From what I understand, CRISPR is a techlique of DNA editting that removes unwanted parts of the dna by cutting them out. May be, someone could develop a drug based on CRISPR, taking out that integrated cccDNA from our own DNA once and for all?

Hi stef2011,
Yes, I've read about replicor and other ongoing hbv drug researches; many of them are promising, but unfortunately none of them, including replicor, target the cccDNA directly. Hence if any cure, it will only be functional cure.
After searching the web, I found the following new study that is trying to use the CRISPR/Cas9 technology to directly attack the hbv cccDNA, and hence potentially eradicate the virus from the hepatocytes.

you dont read our forum at all, hbv cure is replicor drug combo with peginterferon/zadaxin since years and you can see our posts years back about human trials.

no drug maker wants this approved and invest money on it, we hope replicor, very small company, will get approval in europe for hdv and so we will have a cure
