Hair Sample - Hepatitis B result

I have had my hair tested for several things and I was surprised and disappointed to see that I had tested positive for Hepatitis B.

I have had unprotected sex twice in my life once each with two different partners - so I may have got it from that.

What should I do now?  I suppose I should have a test through my local health service.

I am not sure what this is going to mean in terms of finding a partner for the future.  I won't be having any sexual relations for a while until I know what the position is.

Any comments would be welcome.

The sexual contact was over 5 years ago (sad but true) and I have been careful about touching blood ever since the 80's.
The hair test stated negative for HBA and HBC.  I have got a hospital test on 18 May 04.  Its good advice to get a printout of the results which I will insist on.  I am going to follow through to make sure I am OK on A,B and C and will get vaccinations if I can.
Thanks for your comments they have been helpful.  I really hadn't seen this coming.  I will post up the results when I have them.

let us know your test results.  A hair test may only be indicating 'hepatitis' and it may be A, B, or C.  I'm sure if 'hair tests' were so reliable, we all would be snipping away since none of us like the bloodwork!

"I won't be having any sexual relations for a while until I know what the position is."  Hmm...missionary or perhaps doggie style?  Sorry, couldn't resist.  I think folks here are basically Hep C sufferers and gurus.

What you have depends on the type of test they did and the results.
It is possible that you have simply HAD it at some time in your life and beat it on your own.
You could be a "carrier"....which is really not a big deal.
Or....you could be "active"....but I think you would know that because you would be very sick.
They probably just did a simple antibody test there.....in which case you definately want to follow up with your doctor.
Make the doc explain the results to you and BE SURE to get a copy of the test results for yourself.
The Hep B test results are VERY complicated to read and make sense of so you will need that copy to refer back to it.
Do let us know how you make out.
Good Luck............

honey I had four tests done on my hair because it had thinned and I wondered if the cause may have been mercury poisoning.  The four tests were Common Metals, Virus, Fungus and Food Intolerances.  I was just going to have the Common Metals test done but decided to have all four done as I really wanted to get to the bottom of the problem.

I am hoping the test may be wrong but I don't expect it is.  I have tested positive for Cytomegalovirus as well.  I just hope now that I can get a test next week.

Thanks for the information sandi, it is helpful and I have bookmarked the websites.
I will book an appointment for a test tomorrow. This has come completely out of the blue, I suppose I am fortunate to have had the hair sample test otherwise it may have gone undetected for many more years. I will let you know how things go but it may be several weeks depending upon the waiting times at my local hospital.

sorry to hear that you have hep b... You said you found out through a hair sample?  Can you be tested positive for hep a, b or even c like this?  I just wondered because a couple of years ago...I had hair sample tested but nothing came back on hep for me.
