HBV Core AB non-reactive but Igm is positive/indeterminate

After my last exposure 4 months back (one time, protected sex), i tested for STDs few times (online ordering) and for HBV they only do Igm specific tests. Results from 9 days, one month and 13th weeks tests all results were -ve. Results from 17th week blood draw flagged +ve for HBV Igm. Then i went to my primary physician and he order complete HBV panel tests.

HBV DNA, PCR QUNTITATIVE: -ve
HBV surface AG: -ve
HBV Core AB TOTAL: -ve
HBV Surface AB Quantitative: -ve
HBV Core AB IGM: Indeterminate and flagged as abnormal.

Is it possible to have HBV Core AB IGM as +ve and still HBV Core AB TOTAL is non-reactive? What is the meaning of 'Indeterminate' results? Its indeterminate since HBV Core AB TOTAL is non-reactive or Igm is very low?

Your reasoning about hbcab(total) being negative is very sound. Most likely you were not infected and the hbcab img could be a false positive. Just repeat your hbsag test in a few month and take hbv vaccination.

Thanks you very much for your reply. As i remember i have never been vaccinated. Please note that Igm was not detected in my first 3 tests( till 13 weeks), it got detected only in my 4th month tests. It was flagged as +ve and abnormal (they did not say high or low, i think it was only qualitative). # 3 days after this second tests at 4th month time, complete HBV test panel flagged only for Igm and it quantifies it as "indeterminate".  Contagious disease specialist said it could i am exposed and getting cleared. But i was curious why my core AB TOTAL is non-reactive.
Last 4 months have been hell of a depression time.

Were u recently vaccinated for hbv. That might be a reason for ur low titre igM. U r hbsag neg and will remain that further. Do get all the vaccine dose plus booster.
