Odd Apearing Disc Material

All, FYI- Just had micro-discectomy surgery for a herniated disc (lifting a very heavy patient as a Paramedic) and my orthopedist said the usual I guess "went well..." but hen said "we're just waiting on a biopsy report"... huh? "the tissue appeared abnormal in color and texture.. probably your HCV disease process... but thought the biopsy was warranted". A week later it cam back negative and he concluded it was the HCV disease process. history- HCV g3 x >25 years... 6mo Ribavirin/PegInf, undetectable since first testing at 4 weeks I believe and 2 years post treatment now. So I wonder how my discs might have been changed/compromised by this whole HCV and it's treatment..

Dee, not scheduled to see him for another 2 months but will then and will post it.
dontworry- no, it was disc material (which is a cartilage), an L5/S1 micro discectomy enters from the lower back... quite a distance from the liver.

Hi that is odd that he would biopsy your disc material.  But, he must have seen something that did not look right.  It sounds like you have a good doctor.  You could ask your hepatologist too.
I had a laminectomy last year, I don't think they biopsied the tissue.
Can you ask your doctor for a copy of the report?  He would have had to list what and why he was testing.
Just a thought

Sounds like your doctor did a liver biopsy on your liver checking for liver cancer.   Maybe saw something on your liver by sonogram or when you had your surgery.   I think you need to ask for a complete explanation because what your claiming doesn't add up.   Get a copy of the biopsy report.   So you know exactly what "tissue".   The good thing is the test was negative.  But what exactly that test was for is....only the test knows.

Hope this helps
