What can my friend do?

I was diagnosed with Hep C in the early nineties.  I was extremely sick but fortunately over time my enzymes returned to normal.  My best friend however is not so lucky.  She just had a biopsy and has moved into stage 3 disease.  Like many people she is concerned about the interferon treatments.  She is 59 with a two year old angel to care for and has a full time job. Can the medication stop her from progressing to Stage 4, or end stage?  Are there any other treatments out there?  HELP!

Hello,  My name is Richard and I have cronic hep.c/liver failure with Ascities.. and I must admit that it's one nasty virus to battle.    Needless to say, I was also turned down for the inferion treatments....which is okay...as I'm really not happy with that resolve anyway, simply from the nasty side effects....
Alternate~Step 1
To begin the battle, is to "Prepare" your mind first.... Are you willing and able and ready to fight for your life?  Or are you going to say YES and then let those hopeless depressive thoughts get the best of you?    It is said that great Warriors enter into a silence for deep meditation before every battle.... Your MIND is your Shield and your determination to stand the course determines many results and outcome..
Step 2~ Gather your weapons together that you'll need to battle the virus..and remember you can work on a lot of side effects, but your focal point is to go to the very heart of the problem and STOP it...period.  Here are some weapons for you..
A.~Have a heart to heart talk with your loved ones that you'll need their help and support at times, especially with such things as mood swings, and by all means let your doctor know that you will need him to do a complete check on your blood levels, to see what suppliments that you'll need to maintain to keep your body fighting the virus too... [Start your on Log book, what to not eat and what to eat. etc.]  Blood workup will show if you need additional Protein, [Whey Weight lifting Protein power] Iron [Geritol] or is Lactulose needed,? to balance your defenses..
B~ Take a few days to get yourself "Energized" again.... This makes a BIG differance in how effective any treatments are going to be...
Alternate Step 3~ Basically, you have two available options to use in battling the Virus... ONE is our medical science and a strict plan of treatment with inferion etc.. But let's face it...There are limitations even with the Western medical treatments..and advanced cases are simply sent home as end stage awaiting the end..   Sorry...Ain't good enough... so let's go on to the next Step..."An Alternative".
Step 4~ Eastern Medical Treatments~"Alternative" treatments with clinical tests that has proven with positive results.. Many of the deadly diseases has been commonly treated by herbal masters in China for thousands of years, ...even today, due to over crowding and limited medical means to treat the masses in China, a great number still go to herbal masters for their treatments and cures.. Liver failure and Hep.c is just one of several diseases that Alternative treatments are available for...  Here in the U.S. there are treatment centers, such as the Institute of traditional medicine ITM in Portland, OR.  They do have a clinic also, where you can under go intense daily treatment to get after that bad bug virus...but you'd have to live nearby and be available to go to the clinic every day for quiet a few weeks..  Otherwise, you can consult with them for all the combination of herbal tablets that you'll need to battle it at home apart from a clinic..    For example: Check out the 'White Tiger"... Oxymatrine extract, derived from the Sophora root...  This has been used to stop the Hep. C virus long before "Inferion" was ever thought of... and it has No side effects.. The safe dosage is 200MG. X 3 times daily, for a total of 600 MG. per day... But depending on your weight and "Energy" defenses... you can work up to a more potient dosage...but it is Not wise to take anymore than a total of 1,200 MG. per day, simply because too much of any herb. can become "Toxic" and risk complications.. So do your homework.. study...never just treat yourself... follow the advice of a professional master in the field, and though there are many so called "herbal masters" around in cities...not all are trained rightly... so don't be afraid to find out who's who because their clocks aren't ticking...yours is... Get Well..and don't give up in ignorance thinking that the battle is lost... You could just end up back on the other side of the fence again with your liver being slowly regenerated and regaining in functional health... And they said it couldn't be done... Seek...and you'll find....Knock..and doors will open....
Step 5~ MONEY....NO INSURANCE.... POCKETS TURNED OUT...ETC...ETC.. Okay...lets face it...most of us screwed up...we didn't see it coming...or we would have saved up a piggy bank to be alittle more prepared... Financial Stess and looking down an uncertain road certainly can get that "stress level" up for sure...and an "Stress" only excites the virus...it feeds off of stress levels like a cat running to a plate of milk.... so again...meditate, take your loved ones for a walk and stop talking about those pains and worries....balance it with the beauty of God's creation, what a warm feeling it is to just sit in the sun for a bit... go to a stream just to find a Rock to sit on .....and call it Rock Sitting... The "Balance" of emotions are important as outlined above.. Easy listening music.. or whatever you enjoy...Enjoy LIFE for the day...and let the worries of tomorrow take care of itself...
I know.....this doesn't put all that money into your pocket ....but believe me...it helps get you on the road to resolving your Log Plan to customize your treatment that you need...   Almost every city across the country, has a charitable hospital, look in your yellow pages...log down your search list...that you can travel to easily for follow-up blood work etc.. If you are very low income, chances are that you'll qualify for 100% inhouse services within the hosp. ... If your income and asset values are not of such that you qualify for complete charitable services, then you may be placed on a sliding scale, where as you pay $10 or $20 towards a fully billing amount, every organization varies alittle, but it's your resolve...  Once okay for services...you might find that within the hosp. is secondary help available, to futher help with those extra's, such as lab test that has to be sent out, and etc... so if those become too stressful...take the bills in ...."Seek and you'll find futher help available".... Remember...the Key word is SEEK...as some information isn't advertised...so you have to be ASK before you'll receive...
God bless, be well, and Recover.
Richard

Hi there,

At stage 3 fibrosis, your friend should consider undergoing treatment for her HCV. If she achieves SVR (Sustained Viral Response) she will halt and possibly regress her liver disease. The interferon treatment can be problematic, but is generally considered doable.

Just because your liver enzymes normalized after an acute HCV infection does not suggest it has resolved; you should request an HCV RNA by PCR test to check for active virus, Many patients will have normal ALT/AST tests, and have significant ongoing damage. Get yourself checked soon!

Take care,

Bill
