looking for information on hep c

I just found out in the summer i have hep c.I have had a lot of blood test and I just had a liver biopsy 2 weeks ago. I was pretty shocked to find out Iam stage 3 and have advanced liver damage. The doctor said Iam geo type 3 which I guess reacts good to treatment. He does not want to start treatment for about 3 months until I am mentally stable. I have a background of depression due to life occurances. My dad and my daughter both died in 2006 9 months apart, and my grandmother died this past summer. I am on depression drugs, sleeping pills and I also just found out I have copd. Iam 51 and I quit drinking and drugs 12 years ago, although this past summer I fell off the wagon a couple times. Any advise anyone can give me would be appreciated. Thanks Wendy

Hi Wendy, and welcome to the discussion group. You’ll find the majority of are doing treatment right now, or have in the past. There are lots of little tricks and techniques to make this easier; stick around, and folks will share their experiences with you.

Genotype 3 responds reasonably well to the interferon/ribavirin treatment; you’ll probably be required to do six months therapy, and have roughly 70% odds of success.

The progression of this disease is usually measured in years and decades, not weeks and months; so a couple of months here or there probably won’t harm you either way. Better to get yourself situated comfortably before starting, than it is to hurry into it; the treatment can be a little challenging sometimes.

How do *you* feel about starting? Do you have any reservations?

It sounds as though you’ve had to deal with a lot of loss in your life recently; boy, sorry to hear of all that. Are the antidepressants helping you manage? It sounds like you know that booze isn’t going to help you navigate through all this; or you wouldn’t have quit so many years ago. Do what you can to avoid that in the future…

Welcome again, and be sure to ask any questions that might arise; take real good care of yourself—
