3rd stage

My husband has 3rd stage liver disease. He is taking very good care of himself now, loosing weight, walking and eating right.  The doctors agree that he's doing well.  He feels that it is inevitable that he will have a short life.  Right now he is 62 feeling he only has 5 or so years left. Is he justified in feeling this way or can eating right etc still make a big difference here?

I totally agree with the other posters. Personally, I was diagnosed in 1991 with cirrhosis and did not have a successful treatment until 2012. YOur hubby should treat now so he does not progress in to cirrhosis and he likely has a full life time ahead of him.

I agree with can do man I was also diagnosed as stage 4 cirrhosis in Jan 2008 and I am still here with now being cured of hep c by the new treatments I have been told I can expect with care to live a normal life span.

As he is stage 3 he could even possibly regress to stage 2 or even lower with cure if hep c.

Best to you both

If your husband is stage 3 because of Hep C then he should treat and rid himself of the virus. That said one at stage 3 could expect to live out a normal lifespan if he gets himself cured.

I was DX as cirrhotic (stage 4) over 12 years ago and I'm doing fine. Sounds like he is doing all the right things. I would like to add no alcohol as it really speeds up the any liver damage.

Best of luck to both of you. My guess is he has many more then 5 years left.
