I don't think there's need to consider treatment unless they are really low or the spleen is getting big. Otherwise, the issue is more that low platelets *can* indicate probs elsewhere, like the liver. As it scars the liver can develope lower flow rates, causing platelets to back-up (become sequestered) in the spleen. That *can* cause the spleen to enlargen.
I think autoimune issues can affect platelet production and destruction, so your problem could be entirely non-liver related.
Sorry you're having these troubles. BTW, mine are like 115 or so and the only concern is the number is telling as to the state of the liver. I need a dose of liver-rooter.
I'm awaiting a call back from the doctor's office regarding that. I seem to remember hearing pretty often about platelet counts from people under treatment. This just started two months ago. This was after 4.5 months off treatment. Puzzling... or maybe something else is going on. I know there are times when I feel sleepy and weak in the late afternoon and especially after eating dinner...

My platelets were low before transplant and never got very high post tp. Then, of course, they tanked during the 3 TXs but recovered to low normal - say 140,00 - aboout 6 months after stopping TX and reaching SVR. Then after my bike wreck, even on Flomax and another drug to prevent blood clots in my leg, my count was 240,000 and no one had an answer as to why. My PCP just shrugged and said that after severe trauma the platelet count will often rise and that it would probably settle down in a month. It did and then was about 170,000. If you're low normal that's probably okay but I don't recall the condition of your liver. If you have fibrosis or cirrhosis the count might be a result. Otherwise I would hope it will get to a reasonable level soon if it's not already at a safe level. Good luck old friend. Mike
my platelet count was low before tx. 110. went to 90 during tx. finally to 140 3 years later . i was cured after 28 wks of tx. geno2b.
