I know it is common to prescribe interferon to bring down excessively high platelets. Don't know what range high would be though.
Seems unusual for platelets to go up during treatment. My increase of 50,000 in the last 12 weeks might not be all that significant, but will ask doctor.
Mine shot up to the top of the range and quite above it. I was on a clinical trial so the doctor was non-existent. I got dropped from the trial due to anemia. From what I've read, high platelets make your blood thick and sticky. It could have something to do with triglycerides and anemia as well.
Ask your doc. Let me know what he says. I'll be interested to know because mine were super high the whole 24 weeks I was on TX. I'm starting my second go-round in a few weeks and I expect it will happen again.
I was told that platelet counts can vary for those with liver problems. This was in response to a question I posed to a nurse since being post-tx I was concerned that all other values in CBC returned to normal, yet platelets remained low. If I understood the response correctly, an increase in platelets could be a good sign that liver is working better because of treatment giving it a break from virus.
