I am Flying this week , vacation , and am concerned about getting the Flu on the plane . Been on TX for 3 months , white blood cells 2.5 ( normal 3.8-10.8 ) and absolute neutrophils 1365 ( normal 1500-7800 ) so i am somewhat in the defficent range .

Question has anyone ever got the flu while on TX   ?

I am going to wear a mask while flying but , sometimes i will probally take it off  lift it up , to drink water or such .

I never got the flu on treatment perhaps because I always get the flu vax. However, as a first grade teacher, I caught every single thing the kids brought in to the classroom. It was a lousy year. Your white count is plenty adequate to protect you. My hematologst told me that hep C patients on treatment do not tend to get sick because of low counts. He said you only need a very low neutrophil count to be able to fight infection. At one point my counts were around 150 and they told me not to worry, Of course I then did what I always seem to do....something weird ....and my counts went to 0. That is when I got an infection and landed in the hospital. But you should be just fine. Don't forget to wash your hands a lot or use that sanitizer stuff.

Have a great trip!

No the antivirals should be enough to protect you but with a chronic disease you should ALWAYS get a flu shot anyway.

When on treatment it would be hard to tell if you got the flu.  Maybe you'd come down with tx-like symptoms.

Don't forget to take your meds with you.  And, if you trip will extend over a shot-day made sure you keep the Peg cool when you travel.

My numbers are about the same as yours (week 40 for me) and I got cleared to fly in
November. Dr. just said to make sure I have enough meds and she will write me a note for the airlines. I was hesitant to be cooped up in a plane at first, but decided the benefits of a vacation trump the risks. I did get my seasonal flu shot last week........
