Auto Immune Hepatitis

I have been diagnosed with Auto Immune Hepatitis, and Prednisone and Azathioprine has been prescribed for me to take... but I have a very sensitive stomach... can't even take an Advil.  Is there some other treatment for this disease?  As it gets worse, what will happen to my body?  I know nothing about this disease.

The question you have about having a baby, needs to be addressed by your personal physician. He may refer you to a specialist in this area. You show that you care about your health and the health of your potential newborn by asking the question, but this is a patient to patient forum and your doctor must help you with this matter. Good luck and may God bless!

My 16 year old step daughter was just diagnosed with AIH and is now in the hospital with an enlarged liver and spleen. They say it is something that happens to people with Crohn's Disease which she has had since she was 10. This is all new to us and it is nice to see that there are others out there that are going through the same things and making it ok. They have her on the same meds y'all talked about but so far it has not helped. We are still wating on the results of the biopsy that was done yesterday. This is taking it's toal on the entire family.
Thanks for the support of others out there!

I too have AIH.  Diagnosed in Jan 2001.  Most people on this forum have Hep C.  Although the resulting damage is the same (cirrhosis), the disease and the treatment is reverse.  Our immune system works too hard.  Theirs not hard enough.  I too have a bad stomach.  Can only take Prednisone and not the Imuran.  Have to take Nexium to get along with the Prednisone even.  My doctor has added Cellcept which works really good.  I have some other autoimmune diseases too.  When were you diagnosed?  Have you had a biopsy yet?  Have you got into remission yet?  Glad to find someone else with AIH to compare notes with.  If you want to save this forum space for the Hep C's, why don't you email me at [email protected].  I get a lot of junk email.  Be sure to put Autoimmune Hepatitis in the subject line please so I don't delete you with the masses.  Thanks!  God Bless.  Pattie
