Avoid grapefruit during TX?

I had one nurse tell me to not eat or drink grapefruit as it may interact with the interferon. Don't see any warning from the drug co. insert. There are some studies that grapefruit may interfere with statins, but can't find info. related to interferon.  G

I am been told to avoid it as well, but never knew why.

I was told that as well.  I love grapefruit so it has been hard.

If you are on Paxil or Effexor, you cannot have grapefruit either.

I never know how many more meds had been added to the "consume no grapefruit while on this med" until I read an article today (the list has grown.)  Lipitor is one I know of, and there are several others.  Wish I had the article in front of me to give the list of meds  (I didn't see peg or rib.)

That's interesting about the VX and no grapefruit.

I'm participating in the Vertex VX950 trial and was told by my study nurse to NOT consume grapefruit along with the VX950. She said grapefruit was found to boost blood concentrations of the VX to potentially toxic levels. Never heard grapefruit was contra-indicated for other drugs as well, it would be interesting to learn otherwise.
