Hi there - I have the same diagnosis as your husband - complete with ascities. How is he feeling otherwise?
Sonni
I successfully changed up from Pegasys to Pegintron, and achieved SVR that way. I had a very slow response with Pegasys my first go around.
Preferably Mayo can locate a trial for him; there are some pretty exciting new compounds out there now. It might be hard placing him with cirrhosis though; good luck with that.
Stick around here if you like; there are a lot of exceptional folks that can offer thoughts and share their experiences with you.
Best to you both,
Bill
Thanks for the response. His GI doctor said that the next step would be to try peg-intron and ribvin. He did tolerate the pegasys very well thought. WBC droped to .9 and platelets to 40's. I sent in the paperwork today to try to get him into the Mayo Clinic here in Jacksonville and try and get him in a trial. It will take up to 14 days to hear from them.
Thanks again
Sorry to hear of your husband’s diagnosis. Portal hypertension and varicies can definitely be problematic, but not necessarily the end of his options. Have they told him he can’t try more interferon?
A good educational resource for HCV and related cirrhosis is Janis and Friends website; I’ll link you to their page on cirrhosis:
http://janis7hepc.com/Cirrhosis.htm
Be sure to save the homepage for future reference. There are many others in here that are better educated about cirrhosis and end stage liver disease; I’ll let them check in and offer you more thoughts.
His change in viral load is of no significance right now though; don't sweat that as an issue.
Good luck to you both—
Bill
