Bruising

Anybody else bruising a lot easier while on treatment?  What should I be looking for in my bloodwork that might be off and causing this?  The nurse says everything is normal but I"m not so sure.

Sometimes my husband and I wrestle.  If he grabs me to hard I bruise when I never did before.  I got a huge bruise from pinching my arm in the chair at the movie theatre and I am clumsy as heck so I'm always bumping into things.  Needless to say, my legs are black and blue right now.  Help!

Hi. Yes, I'm having the same problem, and it's my understand that is due to my platelets being low. You might want to ask your Dr. what your blood platelet count is doing. I also noticed that it seems to hurt more when I bump myself too.

Not sure about tx resulting in easy bruising.  I never had a problem during tx, but I didn't go that long either.  I do know that the liver produces all the clotting proteins, but I don't think tx would affect that too much.  Have you been taking a lot of ibuprofen or aspirin?  Might just be a platelet issue.  I don't remember exactly, but don't they check your platelet count with your labs?  Maybe it's something as simple as the tx making your platelets less sticky, like ibuprofen will do.
What I do recall getting was sore knees the day after the shot.  Sort of like a deep ache that would be gone the next day.

I've gone through spurts where I bruise TERRIBLY and don't even have to hurt myself and at other times it's been just fine and nothing pops up.

Are your numbers all "normal"?

One of the many listed side effects of interferon is unusual bruising. Mike

R, I stay away from ibuprofen as much as possible bc of the clotting issues.  I did take some on Friday with my shot tho.

NY, the nurse says my numbers are normal.  I go to the doctor again next week so I'll double check with her.

They did not require a biopsy but I'm going to have one as soon as this treatment is over.  I should have gone ahead and done it at the beginning bc I have insurance but I didn't know better then.

I forgot to add that I have blood drawn next week so I won't know if I'm still clear until then.  I'm trying to stay positive about it.

Thanks for all of your replies!

Sorry to hear about your brusing so easily. That has got to stink. I like the wrestling with the hubby part though lol. How has the treatment been going for you lately? Are you feeling better? Are you still clear? Last I remember you cleared, had it go up, then cleared again. I hope you beat this. I am still waiting to hear back from the doctors office about the trial they are doing.

Actually that reminds me of a question I never asked you before. How current was your biopsy prior to your trial? Did they need a current one. I am guessing they will and mine is 4 years old. My doctor should have known that as we just talked about it last visit. I thought for sure he was going to want a new one.

I was on treatment for a few months, I never bruised like that then. But for the past year I bruise real easy. Also if I just barely scrath myself I bleed forever. I have had PT time test done. To see if my blood is clotting fast enough. It wasn't bad. My doctor says that the Hepc can cause this. I know I hate it so bad.
