My Fibro test, what does it mean?

Hello everyone

My Fibro test result came out, it's a replacement for the Liver Biopsy test and it's show:

Fibro test score 0.27 (F0-F1)
Actil test 0.25 (A0-A1)

Alpha 2 Macroglobin (g/l) 2,96
Apolipoprobein A1 (g/l) 1,69
Bilirubin ( Micromale/l) 15.30
Haptoglobin (g/l) 0.71
Gamma Gt ( Iu/l) 32
ALT (Iu/l) 46

I did not understand, Can anyone tell me what all that mean?!
What condition my liver is in??!
Is it good or bad????!
What is the normal range?

The results of the test indicate you have very minimal damage and inflammation occurring in your liver. This is good.

Does your doctor recommend treatment for your HCV at this time?

Good luck—

A biopsy is the gold standard of deduction on the state of your liver and it's damage.  It is relatively painless and unless there is some reason you cannot have one - I would.

Well, my doctor did not see the result yet.

I think she is waiting the result to decide the amount of dose that I need.

Regarding standard treatment Peglayted Interferon alpha 2b (Peg-Intron) is given according to a person's weight. Peglayted Interferon alpha 2a (Pegasys) is given as one standard dosage for all.  Ribavirin is given on a weight based dosage as well.  They do not adjust the dosage according to the results of a biopsy or fibro test or viral load or blood work.  Just thought you may want to know that.

As a patient, the only results you need to concern yourself with are:

Fibro test score 0.27 (F0-F1)
Actil test 0.25 (A0-A1)

The other results are part of a proprietary formula used by the manufacturer (LabCorp) to arrive at the following interpretation:

Fibrosis scoring:
<0.21 = Stage F0 (no fibrosis)
<0.21-0.27 = Stage F0-F1
<0.27-0.31 = Stage F1, Portal fibrosis
<0.31- 0.48 = Stage F1-F2
<0.48- 0.58 = Stage F2 (Bridging fibrosis with few septa)
<0.58- 0.72 = Stage F3 (Bridging fibrosis with many septa)
0.72 = Cirrhosis

Good luck, these are excellent results!

The last line of interpretation should read:

>0.74 = Cirrhosis

Hi Pink;

Any result > 0.21 indicates *some* damage; however, many doctors do not advise treatment until the damage reaches stage 2.

For comparison, my last Fibrosure results were 0.92, and I’m still alive :o). However, my test was taken during combo treatment, against the manufacturers recommendations.

Good luck—

Hi Pink-

According to the information you provided, you are between stage 0 and stage 1; minimal damage. These values translate to the Metavir scoring system, which is based on a scale of stages 0 through 4. Be sure to consult with your doctor to discuss how concordant the Fibrosure results are with actual biopsy sample. Some doctors here in the U.S. do not feel that the results from Fibrosure paint as ‘true’ a picture as biopsy/liver histology does.

Let us know what your doctor has to say regarding your need to undergo treatment. If my writing does not translate well, you might print this page and ask your doctor for her thoughts as well.

Cheers,

Bill

Hi Pink,

I appreciate that you must be very worried about the FibroSure results and how to interpret them and some of the replies you have had are excellent explanations. Just a word of caution, as one person notes, some liver specialists treat that test as just one tool in determining the true picture of liver state, the FibroSure is NOT a replacement for liver biopsies, no matter how well promoted that concept is by the marketing department of the company that developed it.  It is a test that is a helpful tool, and should not be used in isolation. I got very scared when my Fibrosure came back as end stage (F4+), after the previous 2 liver biopsies had shown minimal progression. After several weeks of worrying, I insisted that the test be repeated, and it came back as F2, more in line with the biopsy. Yes, it turns out my disease has gotten active, but not so far advanced as the first  FibroSure blood test said. I would ALWAYS insist on having the test repeated to make sure the results are a true picture, especially when the results are "bad" - for they may push you into making a treatment decision that you might not make otherwise. Congrats on your "good" results. Keep yourself educated and you will do really well!

F0-F1  (stage of fibrosis) means you are between stage 0 and stage 1

A0-A1  (grade of inflammation) means you are between grade 0 and grade 1

Congrats to the good results!

It depends on you, if you feel it's the right time for you to treat now, I personally would do it. If you think it would be better for you to wait for a few years, you can do that, too.

There are a lot of things like insurance, the right time in your personal life etc. which can make a difference in your decision.
