I drink a can of Verve every other day. I am on triple with Victrelis and in week 10 of tx. Verve has mangosteen as the active energy ingredient. My doc said it was ok after reading the label. It definitely helps e get through the work day but I do make sure to drink a lot of water.

I used to drink the Monster Absolutely Zero Energy drink (which actually had 2 carbs) .  I think the sodium was 180 mg which was 8% of USDA. Anyway, my concern is the sugar in the regular energy drinks. When I went for my medication training I was warned to stay away from overly caffeinated beverages & carbonated beverages in general.

Anyway, I think you ought to be OK with an energy drink now and then. I grew to dislike them but I remember appreciating the subtle stimulation of the guarana in those drinks and not feeling like a wreck like the older versions of energy drinks used to make me feel.

I had to laugh about not having thirst quenched because those drinks totally do not quench thirst :)

It's not to much sodium, that's the point, if it were 800% that would be a different story. As I remember Mike's liver isn't to messed up. But I agree all things in moderation, when treating better safe than sorry.

The answer to Mike's question is, no. One energy drink will not affect his tx.

I was told to avoid all energy drinks, most contained something that impacted tx.  Think maybe it was ginseng but not sure, could be other things too.

Too  much sodium can be harmful especially for those with liver damage.
I had to go on a very low sodium diet when I had cirrhosis.

Probiotics is a-okay!

Ahh....there is 8% of your suggested sodium intake in a 16oz Monster. If you have ever exercised you should know your body needs sodium. There is no Vitiman A or Iron in it. Worry factor ZERO! It was pretty easy to find the ingredients.

Hi Mike.  I agree with Rocky (who has treated multiple times).  Watch your sodium intake, as all of these meds are dehydrating.  Every now and then (depending on the ingredients) is probably okay but anything you drink that is not water.....follow it up with a couple of glasses of water, to flush it out of you system.  And I agree with Janee about not knowing if you are feeling hyper (or otherwise) as a side effect or just from the drink.

Hawk -- thanks for the article on the probiotics.  I had not heard we weren't supposed to do Greek yogurt either, as I often have them for breakfast.

Your advice to read labels is a good reminder to everyone.

I don't understand your warning about probiotics.
These are beneficial to us.
When I had some interferon induced digestion issues, my liver NP said there was no harm in taking probiotics.

Believing they are good for us I did a quick search and came up with the following:

Probiotics and Liver Disease

Probiotic actions that are most relevant to liver disease revolve around modification of the intestinal barrier function. Probiotics might increase the strength of the barrier function by altering gut flora for the better. Probiotic therapy may prevent the development of NAFLD in a number of ways. It may also help prevent low-grade inflammation, which could have a beneficial effect in preventing various kinds of liver disease, such as NAFLD and hepatitis, that are rising because of the increase of obesity in America.

Do not know ingredients, but most likely, the immediate issue is with the self diagnosis/ analysis that everyone seems to cave into during tx.  In this case...am I feeling hyper because of the energy drink or is this a tx symptom?  Just eliminate that question.
Certain Vitamins are Toxic to liver.  May not interfere with tx, per se, but your liver, absolutely.   I trust you know not to experiment with herbal teas, milk thistle, Vitamin A, IRON.  Those vitamins could definitely have been in your particular drink, but don't panic...just don't drink any more.  PS. You have to be careful of injesting the obvious like Greek yogurt with live..probiotics. NOT in your drink, but I might as well throw it in there!  Take care, J.
