I just had bloodwork done last week. That is what was used to compute the current MELD score. It is the same as it was last spring when the MELD score was computed.I get Labs done once every 60 days. I  can ask for labs to be done monthly if I want,my PCP wants to keep the stress level down for me.

The MELD score is used as a way to help determine who is on the top of the transplant list. However MELD score does not always show the true severity of liver disease.

According to the liver clinic where my hepatologist works people with
MELD scores from 11-18 need labs every 90 days.
( Scores of 19- 24   need monthly labs
and over 25 need weekly labs, under 11 need yearly labs.)

They want labs this often to keep check on how the disease is progressing.

I'm hoping our dear Hector will come along later with a better explanation for you.
