Hair

I hope this does not seem too petty; but it really is bothering me. I was taken off tx a month ago, and my hair is coming out by the handfull. I am going out in a little while, and I am wearing a cap, something I have never had to do before.

Does anyone know, this does not happen forever, does it? Will it ever start to grow again?

My hair is falling out too and it is from hyperthyroidism. I use volumizing shampoos and conditioners. I go back to the endocrinologist in June and I am going to insist on a thyroidectomy. The interferron shrunk my thyroid although no one knows why. My hair is my crowning glory to God and it bothers me a lot that it is falling out.

Thanks-

At 50 years old a lot of how I look on any day depends on how my hair looks. Now that it is so thin, I feel so unattractive that I cannot stand to see myself or have my husband see me.

I am off tx a month, does anyone have any idea when sides start to go away?

yea, yea, yea, most of my hair fell out during tx. it still looked kinda okay, except it stuck straight out in every
direction just like einstein's hair did. I took advantage of it and wore a flat top for a year and four months.Just about four
months after stopping tx my hair began to come back in. By the time I was 6 months post tx most of the sides were gone. I felt pretty good except for the pain coming back in my side. then at my 6 month post tx doc visit he told me the damned dragon was back.
Oh well at least I got my hair back.
HAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

I lost about half my hair at the end of tx (hypothyriodism) and it has never grown back (18 months later). I feel the difference but it isn't the end of the world, I guess.

Yep, Amerabrit & Audrey --- your post is not petty at all!  We have so many things to deal with under the "stinky breath of the ugly dragon".  Some things are hard to rise above, but the giant BLESSING here is that we all have a common thread, we know how to encourage each other and we can grip hands in this battle we have in common.

Too bad we can't just toss that dragon in the microwave & watch it explode!!!

Mmmm, whatta picture!

lookin' up (witha smile)

OOPPs forgot to add this:  You are not petty. Hair is important to women. I would love to have a bad hair day....instead of my no hair day.... : > )

I have 4 bald patches on the back of my head, and I am soooo tired of wearing my caps, wigs...they itch....bandanas..BUT...to get back to your concern....I have done tx twice before, and both times I lost patches of hair and thinning........it DOES come back.....better than ever!  Although, it did take me about 4 to 6 months after finishing my prior tx's.    I am looking forward to getting my "blond" hair back.  My last shot will be next Tuesday...and I know that I will not really see too much growth too quickly.  (I do have some "fuzz" happening now, but I think it is just wishful thinking)........I really know what you mean....some days I just feel down right ugly.......but my husband says I look great. (He is a smart guy, wants to live in peace. heheheh)
Love ya

LOL..We need to be screaming this from a mountain top! haha  Congratulations...Nice to now be hearing...1 shot left!  I know that at times these sides can make us women and I guess men feel ugly!  Between hair loss, skin eruptions, weight loss etc...There is some days we just don't feel like being out among the living! Hi there everyone! Great to be back on the board. I have been grieving that the board was off. It is so great to be back and able to check on everyone.
I have lost a lot of hair lately. My hair was really thick and I have lost at least half of it, if not more. I lost a hat size or two also. I had been using Nioxin, but I ran out about 3 months ago and now it is really coming out in handfuls every time I brush or wash it. I found some of the scalp tx and put it on and it has slowed down some, but I need to get the shampoo, rinse and follicle stimulator so it will quit. It is so expensive. But it is worth it if it will keep me from losing the rest of my hair. My hair is long, to about my waist and it will be hard to get it caught up with the rest of my hair when it starts coming back in.
I have till the first week-end of July and I will be finished! Just 2 more months and NO MORE TX. I never thought I would make it this far.
Good luck to everyone and SVR for all!!!!!!!!

Your post is not petty, it is serious business when a woman loses her hair, society says it's ok for a man to be bald but not a woman?
When I learned I had to treat for HCV, the first thing I asked was: "Will I lose my hair?".  Everything I've read and learned here says your hair will grow back, maybe even thicker and curlier than before.  People who know you, love you because of who you are as a person. You're a good person and inspirational to all of us.
Stay strong, Audrey..

You have the cutest personality and best outlook!!  Its so true...this is our life we are talking about and our hair will grow back.  I think alot of times we look at it like another dreaded side of treatment.  Thanks for enlightening us!!  Good Luck on finishing up your last 8 weeks!!

I know exactly how you feel.  After today I have 8 more tx to go, and I have a "double-whammy'!  I have HCV (1a)  & also hyperthyroid and my hair is thinning alot.  Just remember that it IS temporary - I lost all my hair almost 4 yrs ago with breast cancer (actually, I shaved it off instead of putting up with it coming out in clumps.)

I have to share the most important thing I learned about hair from a fellow cancer patient during my first chemo.  A lady next to me was degradingly pulling out her long hair in clumps, saying,"See what you have to look forward to???!!!!"

Then another woman, an angel, CarolAnne pulled OFF her wig, proudly beaming (along with her beaming bald head)  and said,"PENNY, WE ARE NOT OUR HAIR!!!  I took that to heart and will never forget her.  I had more fun with caps, hats, do-rags & hatpins of all sorts.  The only thing I regret not doing is getting that Tina Turner wig that I always joked about.

Now, I don't know if this is good or bad news to a guy, but when my hair grew back, it was thicker and much curlier than normal.

Hang in there, talk to the Doc like Galen said, get you some funky hats, and just know that we all care -

Lookin' up

I think your best bet it to ask your doctor.  Sounds like you may have a thyroid problem as rapid hair loss is one of the symptoms of both hypothroid and hyperthyriod.  Good luck.
