Denied treatment

I have been denied treatment because one of the side effects has something to do with your eye sight.
I don't have the best eye sight especially in my right eye but I can get by.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any there any other options?

Thanks to all for your info.
I did have a complete current exam from my Opthamologist and he sent the info to my Hepatologist.
I will get a 2nd opinion from a different Hepatologist.

Having HCV for many years has taken it's toll on my eyes

Not sure if IR cannot cause this problem too  but at a young age I developed cataracts been living with the problem way too long  and when I had my eye exam to get ready to tx
thank god I did not have reitnopathy issues but was pretty much blind in my left eye from cataract so had a restore lenz put it remarkable I am reading now without glasses

I had surgery on my right eye for the same issue 5 years ago now have both eyes done

A trip to the opthamologist is in order for you for sure not sure from your post if you had an exam or how your heptologist decided you could be denied treatment? Have you had a complete eye exam?
Sunshine is correct on her recommendation
of second opinions too

Get your opthamologist and doc (or new doc) to work together. They should be able to find a soultion.
I have a pre existing condition called Chronic Corneal Erosion. Basically it is a lack of lubricant arount the eye. When one goes into REM sleep the eyeball scratches against the eyelid. The lack of fluidI feels like my eyeballs are being scratched by sandpaper.
The interferon and peg are so dehydrating that it exacerbates the condition. The solution is not pretty, involves nearly gooping my eyes shut at night, but it has allowed me to treat without scraping off my corneas.

It all depends on what your preexisting eye conditon is. As others have stated above, tx, can affect your vision, it did mine. Although, it has improved, since being off tx.
If I were you, I would get a current eye exam, from your opthamologist, then get a 2nd opinion from another hepatologist, to be sure.

My eyes are very dry and sore. Right greater than left and extremely sun sensitive so yes unfortunately it does mess with your eyes. Hopefully it is only temporary and they can find a way to do TX with you.

Also agree with copyman, and lala, I had a bad accident  a few years ago,  and had to take steroids,   Which gave me a tiny cataract.  tx can cause further retinal damage,

Also from the accident one  of the spokes in  my one eye  got loosened from the main spoke.

I have to go for eye checks often and was almost refused tx,  but because I had pre existing condition they can moniter it.

Not sure if this will help, hope so.

Good luck

Deb

i agree with copyman, i think Interferon can cause retinal hemorrhage in some people and cause blurry vision.  people should get screened before the start of tx.  get a 2nd or even 3rd opinion.

yes the treatment drugs can indeed affect the eyesite. One of the things done before starting treantment is a full eye exam. Perhaps a 2nd opioion with a Hepatologist (liver speciliat) can come up with a way to treat. perhaps with very close monitoring. Best of luck
