i have been recently diagnosed with hep c and have been told that i will need to undergo inferon treatment for 48 weeks, My question is what should i expect from the treatment? I have had 2 other people tell me that its like going thru qimo and that i will not be able to function for the first couple of weeks and that i will spend most of my time in bed or over the toilet vomiting. You're not alone. I'm also HIV and just finished my HepC treatment. I'm sure the Dr told you you'll need to get your hiv viral load under control before you can treat for HepC. Just take it one step at a time. If I can go through the treatment anyone can! It's no picnic but everyone is different and side effects vary, some worse, some better than others. It is a lot to take in but you'll make it. You can learn so much from this site, start researching and that will make you feel better.

Being scared is something we all go through.  As far as treatment goes, everyone is different.  I spend most of my time working and I never vomited.  As Bill suggested, ask questions, knowledge is power.

Hi Linchie,

So sorry to hear of your problems… there are others here in similar positions. I can only speak for HCV side of your illnesses; while interferon therapy will most likely be challenging, most all of us find it doable one way or another. HIV/HCV confection can make treatment for the HCV a little more difficult, but it’s quite possible to do.

Tell us a little about yourself; are you here in the U.S.? Do you have medical insurance?

Stick around; ask questions, and hang out… we’ll help you get through this—

Bill
