Double doesd Riba this AM. What to do?

This morning (and every morning) I am supposed to take 600MG of Riba and in the evening 800MG. This morning at work I got busy and couldn't remember if I took my morning dose. So at noon, I took 600Mg. When I got home tonight, I counted my pills and I am 6 short of what I should have. So I would say I double dosed this morning ( and probably some other morning). So my question, is "SHould I take my 800MG tonight? or just 200MG?" I am 63 days into treatment and my weight based Riba dose is about 12.75mg/kg.

I think I am what is considered a slow responder as my 4 week PCR was a 1M VL (starting at 9.2M). I want to at least give 12 weeks a fighting chance to get a 2 log drop. Messing up my doses IS not the way to do it I am sure.  But can't undo the past. Just need to make a good decision tonight. Your help is appreciated.

I double dosed about 4 times through treatment, and missed a dose about the same number of times. Double dose was hard on me - very difficult to breath.

I think a few tims doesn't matter at all, the key is not to make a habit of it.

I would be lost without my AM/PM bill Box and still everyday I ask hubby "what is today? Friday?" Just to double check myself. I take 1400 mg a day and I do my best to keep them in line cause of the fact Im just scared of messing something up and having to do this all over again...

been there, done that.

It doesn't matter.  Don't sweat , just continue with your regular dose.
You may come up one short at the end, but at that point you really won't care.

In fact I doubled up on my night dose for a few weeks, just wired me up a little, and put me in a really pissed off mood.... didnt help either , but I was desperate to tet a 2 log drop.  It was not in the cards.

don't worry about it.

I've had to count mine before.  If you have brain fog, that might not be a good idea...too much math.

Jim,
I do get the concept. In fact, reading the posts, I was  thinking I will split the difference and take 400mg tonight. That way I am not erring to much one way or another.

I do use a pill box at home in the evenings. I will have to pcik up one to take with me to work tomorrow.

Thanks all.

I was in a similar situation and I decided to split the difference, so in your case that would mean taking 400mg tonight instead of 200 or 800. Then if you wake up tomorrow morning, thinking D*mn I really don't think I double-dosed yesterday morning which leaves me 400 mg short, then you could make up the missed 400 mg by taking 800 tomorrow morning and 1000 tomorrow evening. Mind you this isn't advice just how my mind worked when I was treating, and while "tippy" technically may be correct, taking too much riba can have consequences probably even beyond hgb. Good luck.

I looked it up in the rx and they said you cannot overdose on Riba.

It states:

No cases of overdose with Copegus have been reported in clinical trials.  Hypoglycemia and hypomagnesemia have been observed in persons administered greater than the recommended dosage of Riba.  In most cases Riba was administered intravenously at dosage up to and in some cases exceeding four times the recommended oral daily dose.

If your not really sure you doubled dosed and decided to take your regular dosage, you can't overdose, but I would be concerned about what it may do to your hgb.  If its already low it may not be good to risk it.

Oh my!  What a mess and it sure does get one all wound up forgetting or taking too many pills. I did that once.

Go to the drug store in the morning and buy a pill box.  Fill it up for the week and carry it with you everywhere.  I also set the alarm on my cell phone to remind me to take them.  Its worked out well with the pill box.

By the way the dental floss is not for the finger --its only for those ?  Lol !  Only we know .

If I double dosed this morning. I have taken 1200 mg so far today. If I take another 800 tongiht, that would be a total of 2000 for today. My normal schedule is to only take 1400 a day. So Jim you are on track.

Now I can't say for sure I double doesed this morning.Checking my pill count and what I should have left it looks like I have at two points in time over the course of 63 days. I have a calendar notice that pops up at work to remind me, I turn the reminder off once I take my pills. . and this normally works pretty well... but with brain fog setting in and being really busy at work, I may have taken them and forgot to turn my reminder off .. ..my post is clearly evident that I need to add another check and balance to my drug taking schema.  Maybe I should also wrap some dental floss around my finger as a reminder....... Rocker just refering to my oil pulling posts ;-) .

If you are sure that you took 1200 already today, then you only need 200mg to make up the difference. Riba has a very long half life so it doesn't matter much if you dose 12 hours apart. In fact, I often took my two doses as close as 4-5 hours apart during treatment to coincide with my meal schedule.

On the other hand, if you aren't sure, then you are faced with the choice of falling 600 mg short (if you only take 200) or taking 600 mg to many (if you take the 800) , but please check my math.

My guess is that a doctor would tell you not to take your full evening dose but personally I might be tempted to if I was a slow responder and uncertain about the morning dose.  The problem, of course, is xtra riba can cause xtra anemia, so I might base part of my decision on how you feel and how much of a hemoglobin drop you had from pre-treatment.

In the future you might want to get one of those AM/PM pill boxes or keep a written log of when you take your meds.

Don't worry-it happens to most of us and it's not a big deal!
Take 200mg tonight.
The ribavirin is not involved in reducing your viral load-it's job is to cause gentetic sampling error as the virus seeks to redesign itself in the face of the interferon attack.
Just carry on as normal and good luck!
