yes what merrybe said find a hepatologist immediately, preferably in a large university hospital ... it sounds like you should be on the transplant list, your gi doc is a fool most of them are about this disease...

try and keep yourself as healthy as possible - organic foods, no/low fat diet, etc - and do not not drink, i have heard that people with cirrosis can live for a very very very long time

dont give up... and stop thinking about how much time you have left but what you will do with every single day from now on, hang in there...

peace

grrr   I am so sorry to hear this, but angry with the way they treated you.

Basically you should continue to see a hepatologist, they deal with liver failure, and there are procedured such as aspirations and drugs that will keep you comfortable that liver docs are more familiar with.

the time you most need an expert is in latter stage disease so going back to just a GP is bad advice. Try to find a specialist soon. If your abdomen is swelling sometimes several quarts of liquid can be aspirated with x ray guide needle, and you will remain much mre comfortable.

sorry for your troubles. MaryB
