Encouraging news

Just called my nurse to find out that I'm 3A!!!!!!! Downside is there are markers for tumoratic activity and thryroid something or another. Once I heard 3A I was so happy that anything else didn't matter. Going in next week for CT scan I think she said to determine my cirrhosis level and to check that tumor. I am almost beside myself because I've been stressing this out since Xmas. 24 weeks Peg-Intron and Rib....Thanks to all that kept me in your prayers. ~Neal~

YOU KNOW WHEN I JOINED THIS GROUP LAST YEAR I THOUGHT IT WAS A SUPPORT GROUP BUT LATELY IT SEEMS TO BE MORE LIKE ONE OF THOSE SNOOTY SOCIAL CLUBS WHERE WE PICK AND CHOOSE OUR MEMBERS AND IF YOU ARE NOT OF THE CHOSEN STANDARD THEN YOU ARE INSULTED AND ATTACTED TILL YOU GO AWAY,BEING SOUTHERN REDNECK THOUGH I AM ALWAYS UP FOR A GOOD FIGHT SO BE SURE AND PACK A LUNCH.JUST TO LET YOU ALL KNOW ...I RESPECT YOU OPINIONS AND WILL FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT TO EXPRESS IT,BUT THAT DONT  MEAN I AGREE WITH IT.MOST OF US WITH HEPC HAVE IT FROM FROM MAKING BAD DISSIONS IN OUR YOUTH AND BUT A FEW GOT IT FROM BLOOD TRANS. EVEN THOUGH MOST WILL MAKE THAT CLAIM FOR IT IS MORE SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE,BUT IN THE END WE HAVE ALL COME TOGETHER FOR A COMMON CAUSE,TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER,SHARE HOPE AND SUPPORT FOR EACH OTHER AND IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH OLD HIPPEES THEN YOU WANT LIKE ME EITHER,BUT MY MOTHER (A SOUTHERN LADY) WOULD SAY IF YOU DONT HAVE ANYTHING OF VALUE TO CONTRIBUTE THEN PLEASE BE QUIET,NEAL PLEASE STAY WE ARE NOT ALL A$$HOLES JUST A FEW....DELORES.....(JUST BE SURE TO PAY CAR NOTE ON TIME OR YOU REALLY WANT LIKE ME)

I guess I am Very Lucky in my new Dr. My last Dr. Stopped my tx. because my platelettes were so low.  I called my original Internest and was hospitilized for five days to get all the effexor out of my sytem and start me on Lexapro. I was in real bad shape by the time I got to see her, mentally and phtsically, on the verge of liver failure again. The only thing I remember when I first saw her was crying and asking her to please get me through this tx. She started checking my platelettes daily and they slowly came up, my ammonia slowly came down (w/ meds). When she released me, she told me she would have given me platelettes I.V. if she had to to keep me going. Now after 5weeks and no lowering of meds, my bloodwork looks good and I only have to have it checked monthly.9 weeks to go and I feel as good as I did when I started, maybe even better. I am the first HVC patient she has ever treated, but she's from Boston (I was her 1st patient here) and she confers w/ G.I.'s she knows back there.I told myself when I started that w/ stage 4 cirrhosis, this was either gonna kill me, cuz the way I was living wasn't much of a life anyway. I guess God's w/ me on this cuz I put it into His hands and every roadblock I've met, He showed me a quick way around it .

Sorry if you think I'm misrepresenting myself. Perhaps your just having a bad day. I'm personnally offended by your remarks directed at me inparticular the ***hole remark. If you feel a need to lash out, feel free to lash out at me because I know it's the disease and probably not personal. I think I will keep my thoughts , input and experiences to myself for awhile. The last thing I want to do is upset anyone sufferring from HCV. I apologize for offering my insite and will look for support elsewhere.

I am a 2b on week 15 of 24. I was told b4 tx. that my liver was fatty, is it just me or does that apply to 2's also? And I Have what my Dr. calls "bareley " compensated cirrhosis, when I am pretty darn sure I was exposed 18 yr.s ago. I always assumed my disease advanced so rapidly because of drugs and drinking. I'm clean and sobers and have been for several years, but could my genotype have added to the speed w/ which my disease advanced?
Not that it makes alot of difference at this point, just curious.    Thanx,  Joni

Thanks for the moral support from everyone. jonihs, the drinking and drugging plus the HCV has alot to do with rapid progression. I too am an ex-hippie that enjoyed my recreational vices, only been sober now for 2+months. My GI said that generally speaking, the damage from the HCV alone can take decades to appear but since I was a drinker that it's a double wammy to the liver. That is why he thought my liver function jumped up from the 200's to 700 & 800's in just a matter of months. Since I wasn't an IV user that was ruled out but I did take 20 pints of blood in 1974 during emergency surgery in Houston, Texas. I can only imagine what kind of folks were selling their blood back in those days before screening of blood supplies. I've been carrying this **** for 30 years now. Good luck to all...~Neal~

You mean, back in your 'wanna- be- rock- star- hippy' ******* annoying drunken college days.  You were probably as annoying then as you are now trying to claim to be something you weren't then and aren't now.

Most drug abusers get the drugs from their family doctors and have insurance pay for it.  Most alcohol abusers are writing their drugs off as 'business expenses.'

Few 'hippies' have insurance, wine cellars, designer flavored vodkas, or expense acc'ts.  Costco is the biggest retailer of wine in the USA, and the fish in lakes outside of Dallas have Prozac in their systems.  Neither of those are hippie hangouts-or are they?

Unhealthy eating, drinking and exercise habits will tear down your system slowly b/steadily w/more devastating effects than a few years of youthful indulgence.

Its more likely your bad habits followed you and are with you today.  You should go organic.  Say no to processed foods.  Meditate and exercise daily.  And smoke a little pot instead of poppin' all those pills.  See, you were never a hippie.

Very good news and so encouraging!!  We needed that!  I'm so happy for you! Sounds like with those climbing numbers...you are on the road to recovery.  Awww how sweet it is...to know that one day...one day we might actually be normal again! I hope each day you are enjoying life to the fullest!! I have sooo many things I want to do after this year and still try to keep up some normalcy around house but just don't have the stamina to plan all the things I love to do.

im 2b. treated in 2003.  got 6 mon. post tx. pcr results yesterday and im NEG!!   so you people facing treatment and going thru treatment please be inspired.   even if you feel like crud most of the time its worth it.
ive been pretty slow to get back on tract but am doing more all the time.   my enzymes normal, white count 5.8 (highest in years actually!)  platelets have come up a bit.  (theyve been low for years due to what the dr. says an immune reaction to the hepc-since my spleen is not enlarged)   so  im very grateful and give God the credit for all this!  do we all ever need his help!!  love to everyone!!

Hi; I know I am off this subject but you made a comment to me yesterday about consulting someone else.  I had not thought of it until now.  Many of the people who contacted me have mentioned Pegasas.  I have no idea what this is and it was never brought up by my doctor.
I am in Ontario, Canada.  Maybe I should seek another opinion?

Cathie.

i'm so glad your 3a, i am too. we have about a 70% of clearing if there are no other factors involved. here is some added info about type 3. simply stated, 3a is known to cause more fatty liver or steatosis than the other types so it can advance quicker. this is the downside of 3a. but the fatty part should go away with treatment unless were overwieght.
you will be in my prayers and i hope the other concerns turn out to be nothing. have you had your biopsy yet? they can't tell that much without a biopsy.
